Product to allow the use of legacy footwear on G8F

I know this may not be easy, owing to the change in rigging, but it would be great if someone could come up with a way of using some of the great footwear available from previous generations on G8F.
I am especially thinking of V4 items.

AutoFit to Genesis and then AutoFit that to Genesis 8 - though of course high-heels will be an issue, as they are with any AutoFit.
Sorry Richard, by "that" do you mean Genesis or the shoes?
The shoes, that have been AutoFitted to Genesis.
Anotehr option would be to load the shoes then load G8
Pose G8 so the feet fall into the shoes correctly (maybe even use the scale sliders on the feet to get them exactly as they should be inside the shoes)
then use the transfer utility to transfer rigging from G8 to the shoes making sure to check the reverse morph option.
Save the shoes as a new asset and you now have your favorite shoes that will fit G8 without problems (or very little problems)
*edit*
The key is to leave the shoes completely alone so they stay in the default loaded position and size
Thanks for the work around suggestions.
If a vendor could script to streamline & refine the process, I am sure it would be a popular product ;)
Care to post an image of your transfer utility settings as I have yet to make this work without totally warping the shoe mesh
Couple things are a must have in the transfer utility
Under Source, have Current selected (since you need to pose, stretch and deform the source to get to fit in the shoes)
In the advanced option, have Reverse Shape from Source checked
The other options depend on how difficult the shoes want to be. I did this with the Sci-Fi Siren boots and left everything at default (minus the changes above) and they came out fine. Then I tried the Lany Shoes and the same default options did not work. (I had to uncheck the Morph Targets option which got me a little closer but not quite yet)
Thanks, but I am not seeing a Reverse Shape from Source, only a Reverse Shape from Target option
That's possible, I was mostly going off memory.
The end result also depends a lot on how well you line up the foot bends with the shoe bends and the size of each section of the foot to the size of each section of the shoes
So, I still think this is a good potential product for a skilled vendor to look at.
:)
I just figured out a better way to convert shoes. It's not perfect and not 100% but it's better and easier than the trnsfer method.
I've not tried on shoes that load up as a pair yet, but I suspect that if you load up 2 copies and hide 1 shoe on each copy, then this method should work as well.
Load up your G8 figure and deselect it.
Load up your shoes
position and pose your shoes so they are lined up with G8's default pose
Now you can either send the shoe to hexagon and back via the bridge to create a new prop or go to edit->figure->rigging->convert figure to prop
now parent the shoe props to G8
then go to edit->object->rigging->convert prop to figure
the defaults should work fine (Triax weight map and with Inherit skeleton of parent checked)
click ok
fit shoes to G8 using unsupported and done.
I'm messing around to see if I can use this method except instead of positioning the shoes (which cause a little distortion where the toes meet the foot) I want to position the figure to the shoes default. So far no luck with that.
Thanks for that input.
I'm still hoping a talented vendor will pick up on scripting for this though.
;)
There are so many really great items of legacy footwear that folk would like to be able to easily use on G8F.
Is it not possible to script an easy conversion?
:(
Is there really no-one else interested in functionality like this?
A lot of people would certainly be interested in the product, but that doesn't mean it is easy to create...
Have you tried the clothing converters by RiverSoft Art and SickleYield? They handle shoes better than just autofit.
Please don't bump threads.
Agreed, if it was easy the product would be out as there is a demand for it. I have the Riversoft G3 to G8 clothing converter and while it is better than autofit, it is far from perfect (even though the vendor says otherwise). I have 22 pairs of heeled shoes for GF3 and only 2 converted to where they were usable afterwards, but all had warped mesh of varying degrees and many were not aligned with the foot correctly.
The workaround which distorts the figures feet to fit inside the shoe would be OK for boots but would not necessarily be very good for sandals or other footware where the foot is visible. Moreover, for boots, it is also possible to just hide the figure's feet to avoid poke through issues.
The workaround using two pairs of the shoes and hiding left or right on each will add extra geometry to the scene, but should work in principle. However, there must be some smart PA out there who could make some money from this problem. Most long term users of Poser and DAZ Studio probably have many Shoe items from previous generations of figures. Whilst DAZ and those PAs making shoes may be happy if we have to buy new wardrobes for each figure generation, many clients are not so happy about this. I for one would be happy to buy a script to quickly make earlier version shoes accurately fit Genesis 8.
@IsaacNewton
Exactly my initial premise. :)
