See this? http://www.daz3d.com/motion-master-for-daz-studio

Doesn't work in DS 4.6 Pro. Dreamlight refuses to update this very useful plugin.

Then I saw this pic on DA

And I'm wondering how do I achieve those same motion/whispy like trails in postwork. I use the GIMP, but I can make due with a Photoshop tutorial. Can anyone help me please? Any "in-depth & step-by-step" tutorials out there?

I love Ron's brushes. For sure you can find that effect in his store:

Love your Avatar, Burst Angel. :)

And I couldn't find anything in Rons Brushes that would help. Besides, brushes are limited. Each pose of my figure will be different and I'll need to achieve the same effect in different ways and from different perspectives.

Check the Adobe website. The effect is doable using the motion blur filter.

I haven't tried this technique but this might be what you want.

Thanks for the tutorial. I don't have the filter it calls for, but I might be able to bypass it completely. I'll also look on the Adobe website and see if any of their motion blur filters are free. :)

Photoshop comes with a motion blur filter.

Does GIMP have an "inner shadow" layer option? In Photoshop, you can set up a layer so that it drops shadows inside a selection.

To get an effect similar to that deviantart image, I would do this:

    1. Select an area on an empty layer where you want your motion trail to occur.
    2. Fill the selection with black (for a light shadow)
    3. Choose Layer Style>Inner Shadow. Set the shadow color to white, and the mode to lighten. This way, the layer treats the black as transparent. Adjust the inner shadow size until you're happy with the results.

You can rasterize the inner shadow and then apply blurs as needed to perfect the look.

    I hope this helps.

you could also draw the effect in white and then use a heavy gaussian blur to achieve a similar effect

...I know, I still miss using LDP2 and Azure Skies. UE may be great & all but there is a certain quality I loved about LDP and the skydomes were some of the best.

That tutorial if not for a plugin or filter, it said you can use a wind filter, then gives instructions on how to create the effect by normal means.

I haven't tried it, and I don't know if it will produce the effect you want, but I believe Daz Studio 4.6 has a motion blur option using the timeline. As I said, I haven't tried it, though.

I can download a free filter that gives me the ability to create an "inner shadow". Thanks for the tips, I'll give it a whirl. :)

I'll try this method first, see if it's good enough for my needs. Thanks for the tip. :)

I've heard about that. I haven't tried it yet either and I can't find any tutorials on how to use it. Tis why I haven't even touched it.

HellboySoto has a quick guide to motion blur in Daz Studio here:- http://hellboysoto.deviantart.com/art/Daz-Studio-4-5-Motion-Blur-330124066

The principle is quite simple but to get the sort of effect you are after will I would guess mean compositing a couple of renders in GIMP, one blurred & one not. I have tried a couple of times myself but I wasn't overly pleased with my results but I must admit to not putting that much effort in as it was very much a case of seeing how it worked..

I'll give that a try too because that's a useful trick I really need to learn. Thanks!

What Jeff did in his image is quite simply for someone who knows basic photoshop...its a selective motion or radial blur in selected parts...if you are referring to the trail you can achieve such effects by using motion trail from alien skin 7 filters...

Another work around is to handpaint them with selections and stuff but if you dont have a wacom it could be tricky...

Im sure Ron would be very interested if you ask him, to create a motion trail brushes set...he is a close friend of mine and i can do it for you if you want! It would be very easy for him! :)

Thanks for the compliment Knight! The DAZ SSS Shader is lovely on Surreality's skin textures.

I'm going to have to check on all these suggestions.

Could you also ask him to do speed lines and other manga/comic brushes? His brushes are some of the best in the business. Love to his treatment of cross hatches and speed lines for comics.

...I still wish effects brushes were set up as .png's instead of .psd's. On my diminished budget (since losing my job), even PS Elements is too much to afford at this time.

Converting .psd brushes for use with other 2D apps like PSP or Gimp is a pain in the bum and I never could seem to get the process to work quite right.

Purchasing used software on sites like EBay is a sketchy situation for me, as according to most EULAs, reselling/transfer of software licences is prohibited.
