18th C English Coaching Inn

Set around a courtyard in a busy city, coaches ran all across the country as the main mode of travel before railways. Often these inns would include theatres, hostels and shops as well. Usually galleried up to three stories high in larger cities. Inns like these were found throughout England from Medieval times through to Victorian and hardly changed. All of life could be found there. Dickens wouldn't be the same without them. Several famous examples in links below.
