I was wondering if there was a way to save Genesis so I could use it in ds 3?

No, Genesis is a completely new figure, and it has Triax weight mapping which was introduced in DS4.0 onwards.
I suppose it would be possible, using DS4.6, to redo the rigging to the legacy way, and then it might work in DS3, but I have never heard of anyone trying that. It would probably defaeat the main purpose of the new rigging (better bending etc)
Is there a reason you can't use DS 4.6? It's a free download after all so as long as your computer can handle it I'd recommend upgrading.
most renders crash unlike DS 3 which never crashed.
I was just hoping for a way to export it to DS 3 :) even if I cant pose it there as long as I would be able to change textures of clothing etc through DS3 :)
you could pose the figure in DS4, then export the file as an OBJ with materials, then import it all back into DS3.
The downside is that figure is no longer poseable, but it will render.
What are your system specs for the system you are trying to render in DS4.6?
Thanks :D
My system is 6yr old, it has a duo core processor with 4gb ram and runs Vista 32bit :)
Are you running with the 3GB switch enabled? If not your Studio is only able to access 2GB RAM in total, if you add the switch you will get it to use 3GB RAM. Studio 4.6 uses more overhead than Studio 3 and generally needs a little more RAM for do it's thing.
Another option is to export your scenes as RIB files and import them into the Standalone 3Delight. Since you have a 2 core system this method might actually give you slightly faster rendering results, but if your crashing using this you will probably need to close Studio while you render to free up the RAM it was keeping for itself.
3GB Switch

3Delight Standalone, I wrote this for Mac OS but the concept is the same for Windows

Humm I had Vista with 4GB of Ram I never needed to do anything to use 3.25 GB of it as that is standard with Vista.
Anyways my machine now (borrowed) is older and only has 2GB of Ram and I can render in DS4.6 if I don't load much in the scene.
These images were rendered in DS4.6

Nope, a single 32 bit windows app does not see more than 2 GB RAM out of the box without making this switch. The OS knows you have 4GB but it partitions it out for a single application to have a 2GB RAM limit.
Here's Microsoft's explanation btw.

Unless you are running a 64 bit OS, or a 32 bit version of an application in a 64 bit OS on your windows computer this limit is enforced unless you tell it otherwise.
So Vista displays 3.25 GB of Ram but only 2 GB is used for every program... stange how I got faster renders, could load more when I upped the ram to 4 GB. Thanks for the links.
was it enabled already?
The machine has gone so I can't check but it could have been. Thanks for the correction though, I learnt something new which is great.
