What would I need to do/buy to get this look?

I need to do a book cover portraying artificial intelligence, but it isn't a sci-fi novel. It's a literary debate/discussion of sorts, nonfiction.

One idea the author mentioned is doing something similar to I, Robot's VIKI or from Halo. How would I do effects like this with Daz or a daz app?

You say that you are using Daz Studio. I think there is pwghost. I am not sure if it works in DS4 or not. Another option would be Photoshop or Paint shop pro or other image editor.

I'm using DS3 ... and I have pwghost, but have not used it yet, so not sure what it can do ... lol.

    Thanks :D

I was not sure which version you used and I tend not to remember what other people use as that can change so quickly.

Cripeman just put up a video about making a hologram in Carrara yesterday.

Enough should carry over to DS to get you started.

You are going to need to do at least some post work, or pre-work on the textures, especially for the first effect (note that the patterning doesn't follow the contours of the head, it looks very much like an effect applied to one or more masked layers at the compositing stage).

For a simplistic effect, just select all the textures on a figure, bump the ambient up into the high 80s and select an 'unusual' ambient colour, teal-green and purple seem particularly good.

The figure below is V4 Chablis with this applied in DS4:

In my opinion, you should try to use after effects;-)

Isn't After Effects an Adobe program?

That is cool, but I don't have that program. I wonder if I downloaded the trial if I could learn it fast enough to do something like that?

You can download a trial, but you need "particular", a plugin for after effects too.

I am actually working on a holographic character for personal use. I am creating her using multiple techniques that I have picked up over the years.

    Diffuse mapping for her texture
Ambient mapping to add a nice glow effect to her.
Transparency mapping to make parts look like computer code like in Cortana from Halo
No bump mapping on her but I am using displacement mapping to give her cyber skin kind of like Hitomi Robo Geisha

Here are two renders I did a bit a go using Hitomi Robo Geisha and Ami.
