Hair in Rainbow Colors?

I have a character that needs a fun hairstyle that displays in a rainbow of colors .. is there anything like that out there?

Lacking that, can someone guide me in making Nox hair be a rainbow?
Open one of the light hair textures in Photoshop or GIMP or whatever and make a layer above it with a rainbow gradient or just a layer where you paint stripes of color in the same direction as the hair. Set the rainbow layer to Color blending mode (and experiment with some other blend modes in case they look nicer to you). Save that as a new texture and use it.

@AgentUnawares, I was trying something like that. I'll explore more until I can afford the shaders. I can do so much with those. I hate being broke.
I use this amost in every render- renders fantastically and you can easily change up coloring, low lights, high lights, umbre, etc with these.
