Oh, which way to go...?

So let me get this straight...
Gen1 was going to open the way to a new universe by using one figure and could auto-fit just about anything in your runtime.
While Poser... well to get things to work you had to buy 3d party... and hope
Now with Gen2 you are back to needing to buy things all over again and auto-fit may work retro actively but only if you buy some plug-in that may or may not happen later.
While Poser now imports and auto-fits just about anything (or so they say)
So Daz and Poser are swapping out directions now?
Just wondering...

Genesis 1 works exactly the same way as it always did. Autofit will fit clothes made for V4 ad M4 and K4 (I believe) out of the box, but to use any of the other Generation figures (V3, A3, M3 etc) you need to have the Iconic Shapes for Genesis.
Genesis 2 does not fit V4 clothing out of the box, and you need the Victoria 4 Shape for Genesis 2, which also supplies an Autofit clone for that purpose. Genesis 1 clothing does fit to Genesis 2 using Autofit.
The plugin you are referring to i think is GenX, which is for transferring morphs from other generation figures (Gen 4 and Gen 3) to Genesis, it has nothing to do with clothing. D3D has said he will update this plugin for Genesis 2, is that what you mean?
Autofit is a DAZ Studio plugin, and it does not work in Poser at all.
Poser Pro 2014 has the new fitting room and improvements to it's morph brush. You can take any clothing item for any figure into the fitting room and refit it to any other figure. However, it is not a one (or even a few click solution) and has a learning curve.
How well and how easy the fit is the same for any conversion app or plugin. It varies according to clothing mesh, figure, and the user's experience.
It comes in the Pro version only.
And I suppose I was a bit grumpy and posted a bit quickly. I have had pretty good luck just using the Auto-fit by itself to get just about anything to the Gen1, and if it did not work out for me, then using the V4 shape (or others) usually do clean things up very well. But in looking over the various posts, it seems as if Gen2 is not very backward compatable. Yes, later there will be other things I can buy... and I suppose there is the endless cycle Daz is hoping for.
Yes there is a learning curve with Poser 2014 Pro... but once learned it seems as if I have a way to cover almost everything. Yes it currently costs - what $189.00. But lets see... I buy V6 pro @ $89.00... along with the - will show up later - V5 shape - or others (probably sold seperately) and it will all be priced about the same.
And then next year we go through it all over with V7 or Gen3
One of the nice things about Gen1 was that it had a smaller poly count. Something that you could almost shoehorn into another program. But Gen2 is taking the count back up which makes it more unfriendly for animation use with other packages.
I'm just not sure how many more Gens I'm interestest in paying for.
G2 is free, so check it out, autofit some of your existing Genesis content, try on some V4 skins, and see if you like it. That should help with the decision.

You can only use V4 skins on Gen2 if you purchase this

and convert the mats to .duf files.

Oooops, I meant V5 skins. Sorry about the typo.
*Shrug* You don't *have* to use the latest and greatest thing. My most often used figure is original Genesis with GenX, autofit, and Sickleyield's system. I'll stick with that combo until I can get the equivalent with Genesis 2 - I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything currently.
As a side note, in addition to Studio, I also use Poser, but haven't upgraded my Pro to 2014 - last year's version works fine for me.
It should also be pointed out that Genesis 1 had about 19,000 polys, and Genesis 2 has about 21,000, so not much difference at all.
