Realistic Characters

I heard alot of people in the various forums talk about the need for realistic characters for their art...and not being able to find what they need.
Unfortunately sometimes we need a larger vision of reality....we could follow the professional studios that make movies like "Despicable Me"
(I saw the pic of this guy online while researching a character...and had to put him with Gru)

LOL!
I think people that are screaming for realistic people in their renders miss the point about 3D pictures. If I wanted real people to render, I'd get a photo. But even photographers photoshop real people to look "unrealistic".
I remember watching a very interesting documentary called, "How Art Made the World", Its has an interesting episode on why we tend to exaggerate the human form since the dawn of human history.
I agree I don't really aim for realism.
Rawn are you planning a minion morph for Genesis :)
Baw Ha Ha Ha He he he... Oh my that's just KILLER. TY so much, this is the second thread in a row that I've opened that MADE my DAY.
If I want true realism, I'll take out my camera. I do this to have fun, relax and make a few pictures. For those who want true realism, who do you pick as your model? The world has a few billion people on the planet, how do you narrow it down to one? Love that picture, and had to re-watch Despicable Me 1 because of it, hoping to see 2 soon. I am wondering how he keeps he pants up though. He must need the same heavy duty, double sided tape that Vicky uses.

Throw me on that list as well. I use DS for things that I can't find in my every day life (even though they may be in someone else's lol).
That could be an interesting challenge..hmmm :)
For two of my projects, having realistic figures is important however getting photos of the people is impossible except in one case - me. I'm working from memory (and we all know that can be tricky) that goes back almost 60 years in a few cases. I know that my memory is faulty but for the purposes of these projects they have to be as close as possible to the actual people. There are a few other complications involved but I'll not bore anyone with them.
i prefer stylized characters over "overly realistic" characters anyday x3
Well .. this is like a road with hands / lanes in the opposite direction ... and in the end everything works, There is room for everyone. There are those who seek realism in their characters, while others seek the non-realistic, realism.
There are comic books, in which the designs tend to imitate the style 3d art, on the other hand, there is a tendency for 3d art style with traces of comic books.
Some say: "Art imitates life", but others say: "Life imitates Art" ...
Well ... That guy on the left in your picture there seems to imitate art ... It seems to leave many drawings I've ever seen ... This guy is a "figure"
