Daz 4.6 Missing Categories, Smart Content & Products
Hi all,
Well, I must confess to not having ever seen this before.
In the last 24 hours all of my Categories content has disappeared, labels are still there as well as the structure but no items.
The same applies for the Smart Content as well as the Products listings. Smart Content icons (pictures) are there, they just don't work.
I am guessing that somehow the CMS database has been corrupted or just gone south.
This all happened since I upgraded DIM two days ago, which updated a few content items. DIM also installed the 32 bit version of DAZ 4.6 Pro (my mistake, should not have checked the box). I have since uninstalled the 32 bit version using DIM.
I am using an iMac with OSX 10.8.4.
Having read several articles in the forum I believe I can fix this by restoring the CMS database from backup (hopefully).
Only problem is I cannot find the database location to restore it. I am running Time Machine so I have very comprehensive backups.
Could someone tell me where on a Mac the database resides so I may restore it.
I have spent months Categorising my content....really don't want to have to do it all again [sigh].
Also, the Categories (labels) appear, then disappear within minutes.
Can anyone help me please?

I have a problem of a similar nature, i have had to reinstall Daz several times for the issue mentioned, above, however now i have a problem saving Character presets, every time i save it the character materials and shaders will come back, but the morphs all reset to zero, it is extremely frustrating, the shaping preset still works and it is the only way i was able to keep my character but having to reskin and re-shade the character every time i am going to do anything with it is a massive pain.
I have reinstalled Daz, removed everything from the database(essentially removing my things from the content windows), and many other tweaks and nothing works. Is anyone else having or have had a similar issue?
Surely if DAZ produce a version that runs on OS X someone knows where the CMS database is located.
This is really all I need to know, then I can fix the problem.
All I seem to be able to find are solutions for Windoze versions!
Help please.
OK. Fixed it myself after trawling through many, many posts........[phew].
After reading this post: http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/5749/P30/#365495
I used the following method to restore my CMS Database on my iMac OS X 10.8.4
1. Located the CMS database here: "/Library/DAZ 3D/Content Management Service/databases" on my iMac.
2. Located the backup version (from 4 days ago when it was still working) of the CMS databases folder within Time Machine backups.
3. Inspected the database sizes on disk and compared them to my Time Machine backup sizes. The backup sizes were significantly different (larger).
4. Copied the "databases" folder to my desktop just in case.
5. Stopped the CMS Service.
6. Restored the whole Time Machine backup of "/Library/DAZ 3D/Content Management Service/databases" to their original location.
7. Started the CMS Service.
8. Started DAZ Studio.
9. Everything is back....HOORAH!
Hope this helps anyone with a similar or the same problem. And I DO hope this never happens again.......fingers crossed.
NB. Backups are essential. Backup regularly..........if you don't, well, you know the outcome.
I read your post this morning, and I tried to find a thread about it myself for about 20 minutes, no success.
Thank you for finding, and posting this, I now have it in my list of useful links, so it will probably help the next person who has similar problems.
Cheers, no problem. Glad it helped.
Just a tip:
1. Backup the CMS Databases regularly. Doesn't matter how, just do it.
2. Export User Data regularly. Especially after changing or adding new Categories or Content.
This sort of issue should definitely go in a Knowledge Base of some kind for everyone to access.
I do believe I am going to write a How-To (OS X centric) manual especially for things like this.
After using DAZ3D on an iMac for almost 4 years it is about time someone wrote a definitive guide for Mac users.
There is definitely a lack of information when using DAZ3D Studio on a Mac platform. All appears to be Windoze oriented.
Could be a large undertaking and take me a while.
Stay tuned and I will post it as soon as I am able, couple of weeks or so. Gonna start a DAZ3D blog for Mac users as well. Will post the link when it is up and running.
That would be very useful, and very helpful to other Mac users.
I look forward to seeing it when you manage to get it done. Thank you.
Hey,
As I mentioned previously I have now published a blog at:
http://sawdigitalzfx.wordpress.com
The domain name may change when I register my own shortly, but I will publish the new link to all anyway.
There are no entires at the moment but I will publish articles over the next few days, and keep it updated as I have quite a lot of information stored in my own knowledge base that I am going to share with everyone, in particular for DAZ users on Mac OS X.
It will cover topics like:
Installing, customising, troubleshooting, tips & tricks etc. Basically a "How-To" for Mac users.
Please feel free to pass the link on to anyone you think may be interested or benefit.
Also, feel free to post yourself.
Thank you Stiks, I have put the link into my useful links folder.
