Can someone explain why Gen1 stuff doesn't work with Gen2?

This isn't an outrage post, I just don't know what changed that made all of the genesis 1 stuff not work with genesis 2? From what I can see, this is the smallest change in figures that I've been around for. I was fully expecting genesis 2 to simply improve on genesis 1, but what is the actual internal issue that makes G1 stuff bad?

It's a new mesh, thats all that is required for things to no longer work. The base shape is different, and the poly count has changed. Rigging is different. etc Etc.

it's not that G1 stuff is bad, it just wasn't designed for G2.

...which is what has kept me from adopting it.

Furthermore, you also need the V4 to G2F utility to autofit V4 clothing and use skin maps based on the V4 UV map (which a number of Gen 5 characters use).

As I understand the only way to currently get around this is creating clones for use with G2F which I have never done myself.

Hahaha, I didn't mean bad as in poor quality, thanks for the information.

Well, actually it's a pretty dramatic change in figures. The rigging is different for starters, and Genesis 2 Female has breasts you can *ahem* manipulate individually, as well as a poseable lower jaw, neither of which was previously available. There are more polygons in Gen 2, the topology has changed and she no longer has to support male or child morphs.

As for getting stuff to work, I've found some items which have had issues, but they're outnumbered by plenty of items which work almost faultlessly. If you can give examples of stuff which doesn't work, we might be able to assist you in that regard. In the meantime, here's Victoria 6 wearing a classic Genesis Teen outfit to illustrate that it really does work!

Little tip though, if like me you get two autofit dialogs, click CANCEL on the second one. Only the one where you select the type of outfit needs to be used.

The V4 to G2 thing requiring an extra step is definitely going to make this a no-go for me, sadly. The majority of my library is V4 clothing at this point (I abandoned my v4 morphs to the wayside) and was happy that Genesis handled them so well. Now that they are tossing V4 completely away, I guess my time here is running short :(

They are not tossing V4 completely away, which is the reason why the creator of V6 made the V4 to genesis 2F thingummy. You need an extra step to get V4 shaping and morphs into Genesis, so it is no different.

G2F and V6 are almost enough to persuade this Genesis sceptic to actually upgrade my older Poser to a version that can take advantage of her. Maybe when M6 appears I will take that step, because I am very impressed withG2F and V6

That's what the V4 for G2F product is for. It provides an autofit clone, V4 UV map for G2F, as well as V4 morphs, which means you can autofit your V4 clothing straight to G2F and use your V4 skins, by means of UV switching (no different than switching for Gen1), but they just have to be saved out to DUF format first (why other format skins cannot be used, I have no clue).

This at least solves the clothing issue, but will still require extra steps to get non DUF skins to work on G2F, with or without the V4G2F product.

I'm speaking objectively, btw. I have not adopted G2F completely and have not bought anything that's explicitly for only G2F.

Yeah I'm sure you're right, I'm just being over-dramatic. I'll have to look into that.
