    LOL!
Grazzi! Is that how Thank you is spelled?
Prego. That's about all I know... so... Ciao for now! lol

Yeah... what I mean by 'ribbons' are the meshes that we usually see when we have conforming hair. Ribbon meshes with alpha maps. Works great, really - but as the figures continue to evolve into their ultra-realism, the hair technology is still the way it has been. Mec4d was working on some brand new steps towards another solution - I believe, from what it looked like, that she was actually modeling strands of hair that follow because they're conformed. Not sure why she left DAZ. She has Carrara though! :) She's a relatively new Carrara user.

    wip - Hi everyone
only to point out I imported successfully in Carrara Nigel, Asian face, Riley, Michael and Tyrese (first shot) and Kyo, Deborah, Hayden, Jessie and Lian (second shot). Carrara 8.5 is a great piece of software, I'm very pleased with it
    more to come...

    Without dynamic hair?
Wow. The best thing I can suggest is using very high quality hair. Preferably from a vendor that specialises in hair.

Although I'm not doing still work - which would be far more difficult to pull off - I have found some success (I think) with using multiple figure of the hair I want to use - scaling and shaping each successive conformed figure different enough to add to the realism. Using this method for the hair in your example would conceivably work even better - since it's mostly straight. You can, therefore, add a few more dark strokes to the alpha map using a paint brush, to make the outer layers less and less visible.

In hindsight, I redid my Rosie hair - adding motion morphs to the main figure first - before creating the successive figures - so that I have the morphs available on all copies. Then I can tweak the morphs later - according to the new mesh shape.

Wow! I have not been notified of many posts - and now I'm just finding out that I have to catch up in many threads! So sorry, Sir!
I have to go play my drums now - but I'll upload that shot for you later or, more likely, tomorrow.
If it helps, I'm using Angelina Hair, by Goldtassel.
The mesh moves and morphs very easily using soft selection in the model room. Crank the number up high to move an entire lock of hair mesh, or down lower to shape the curls.

    Very cool!
Project Dogwaffle Pro: Howler 9 is nearing release - I've been a part of the beta team and it's looking amazing. My time has, unfortunately, been way too limited lately for any of my digital fun. Part of my up and coming "Hair in Carrara" effort will also include using Howler 9 - because it includes more abilities for animated selection via avi or image sequences, plus I asked if he could consider 'oilify' artistic filter being added to the timeline features, which allows for keyframed changes like all timeline filters - he added it the next day!

So I'm hoping to create a realistic and/or toonish consistently reproducible method of making animated hair in Carrara. I plan to get really hard-core into the subject for hair that gets conformed to the figure as well, but mostly Carrara dynamic hair and attempts at using soft body bullet physics engine with various techniques for that. I am completely untrained in the use of Bullet so I'm not sure if I'll make any headway there - but it's one of my main areas of interest.

Anyways - I really like your shaders and shaping. Looks Great!
Question is: Are you happy with it?

I think the characters (including their hair) look great!

    Hi DB,
I'm very glad to read you're taking part on the development as beta t. of that great piece of software, can't wait to seeing your achievements in dw as well as in carrara too. As for my works, you know I randomly publish some images to show what is remarkable and/or noteworthy for novices because I find superb many carrara features, so my exploration into carrara secrets is going onwards more and more. As I have already pointed out in this forum, the very bottleneck in carrara is facial animation and lipsync, my hope is a fully integration/interchange with ds and some plugins to solve this issue
