Dark Matter Shaders [C0MM3RC!AL]

See them here: Dark Matter Shaders

Dark Matter, a mysterious substance with a strange energy coursing throughout the universe. Until recently, it was only detectable through its gravitational influences. Now you can apply these 47 exotic materials to your characters and props! Need antimatter for your warp core? Want to create a ghost that sucks the light out of a room? How about a star-energy gate, another dimension? Try these shaders on skin, clothing, vehicles, and weapons…and expose the wonder of the cosmos.

Feel free to post any questions and if you're inspired, post some Dark Matter renders.

I have been on a bit of a spending freeze but I snagged these so fast my poor wallet had no idea what happened lol.  These look amazing and I can't wait to try them.

What's with the goofy spelling of Commercial? Am I missing some joke?

Barbult! This set has some very unique properties, they turn the Shader World on its ear...so I'm just playing into that.

The product page mentions to check the readme for tips and tricks, but there doesn't seem to be a readme in my download?

Have only done some test renders so far, but these look really cool. They seem straight forward enough to use so I don't know that the readme is needed, but it seems like the sort of thing where you might have some tips and tricks that I might not have thought to try on my own. Thanks for these!

Hi AlmightyQUEST. This is good to hear, I had hoped these would be pretty straightforward to use. This products read me is accessed through smart content by clicking on the products main thumbnail or through the install manager by clicking on the "I" information. Let me know if you would like more information.

This has been such a clever move Marshian! I've been thinking about this idea of negative light every now and then with the wish to experiment at some point but I never went through with it. So I guess I should just get your work and be happy ;)

They are pretty freaky to work with Linwelly laugh . The initial discovery was very exciting when I realized it would work and how I could customize the base preset.

I played around with Dark light a while back and was also amused by it, but I never did much with it; always a joy to see Marshian take various ideas and develop the heck out of them!

I tried to figure out how to do that effect a few months ago and couldn't make it work at all, I can't wait to try this!

I cant wait to see what other artists do with these shaders. Even when I rendered my last promo I could tell there was a lot more to explore, maybe now that they're out I can play a bit more.

I've bought these and I've been experimenting with the negative light effect. You can get some great effects with this, I've been experimenting with changing the emission level, you can go from subtle effects to a big pool of darkness. I haven't managed to create an image worth showing yet but with luck I will get there.

Thank you for another great innovative product.yes

@Peter Wade- Very good, I've been looking forward to this kind of feedback. You are welcome! I'm going to keep them coming.

Thanks for stopping by. I wish you great luck on your renders. I would say keep the composition simple at first and it definitely helps push the effect if there are vertical surfaces near the affected area, this way it's super clear that the effect is not just a shadow.

I haven't had a chance yet to try these, its been totally insane at my house, but I'm hoping to get to some personal renders soon.

I've been working on this for a while now, our ace investigator sent out to a strange object that has appeared in the city. The composition isn't great but it shows the sort of effect you can get. I've put the emission level up and down so often i don't know if it is higher than the library setting or not.

I like the way the car casts a shadow in the negative light with a patch underneath that is brighter than it's surroundings. Definitly an effect worth playing with.

I doubled the min and max sample settings for this render, I found the default settings made the dark patches a bit spotty. I don't know if this is specific to these shaders or is normal with emissive textures on an object like this.

    Thanks for posting Peter.

Yes, the grain can show up with these shaders. I kind of like how gritty it felt not letting the render complete. The size of the object in your image is pretty close to the spheres I tested on so my guess is the emission is near default settings. It might be interesting if the second torus had one of the 0 EM (0 emission) shaders applied for contrast.

    Very cool to see this!

I had another two goes at this following Marshain's suggestion loading a different preset on the more vertical torus. The first one has the same name but with zero emission. The second one has a different preset from the Dark Matter collection that has positive light emision. They both let you see more detail in the shaders. The negative light effect is not as strong but it I still think it looks good.

Meant to post here when I got these, but as usual, Marcshian's done some splendid innovations. What I primarily obtained these for was to experiment and see if a figure could be made to look like a living shadow - and they really work well for doing that! It isn't just a sharp outline, which would otherwise cause an unintentional 'uncanny valley' effect. The figure literally looks like they blend into existing shadows.

There are a lot of uses for many of the included shaders, but that one effect is now going to be tremendously useful for fantasy and supernatural art renders.

That red one! It looks awesome. Thanks for following up on the idea Peter. I wish I had rendered a torus of that thickness in one of the promos.

Thanks so much Xenomorphine, what you mentioned is the effect I was going for here:

That was pretty much it! Wasn't sure if some Photoshop work had gone into the blending or not, but it really did look jsut like that. :)

Did you apply it to a cloak in the image? It seems as if the arm was reaching out of something.

Ah, forgot to post this over here too. The final render is a bit grainy, but used some of the shaders on the jewelry. I like the effect even on fairly small objects, these are very cool looking!

I used a dforce plane over a figure. That took a while to get right, haha.
