Hello everyone, Now this may sound ignorant, but i am new to maya and daz. I have my Daz scene set up with very specific lighting arrangement i worked on for quite some time. I now need to get the entire Scene including lights and cameras to maya using the FBX format However upon export ( selecting lights , cameras, props and figures) and importing into maya, the lights show in their arranged positions but upon rendering the lighting information just isn't there. as if the lights are not turned on. Here is a shot form my Maya(first photo) as compared to my DAZ Render(second Photo).

Any ideas as to what i am either Missing or not doing right?

I dont have or use Maya but have you checked the properties of the lights in Maya to see if anything seems odd???

After bringing them into maya i tried to mess with the settings of each individual light but they were not coming out as i originally made them in daz, I started from scratch and rebuilt the lighting in maya and to achieve the same effect the light rigs were nothing like daz's exported lights.. I prefer lighting in Daz, instead of maya. Just easier to use daz IMO. But it seems the FBX export doesnt export lighting very well so i might have to just build all the light rigs in maya for my pipeline... *sad face*

If anyone has encountered issues with importing the lighting into maya please let me know if you found any solution to preserve the lighting form daz during export!

Quick Update, Not sure if this impacts the lighting or not, but when importing the scene to Maya, in order to get the lights control points and cones visible i had to significantly scale the lights up in size. which leads to to believe that perhaps the scene is just HUGE when importing to maya and there for the lights are not displaying properly?

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

Maya is a professional 3D package, and has two render engine out of the box, Maya software and Mental Ray.
My suggestion is to start to learning 3D seriously before try to export/import scene.

I have been working in 3d for quite sometime 3d Studio Max, Softimage, Zbrush ect... Daz 3d and Maya are the only thing that has changed in my workflow. The point of my asking on these forums was to get assistance for a specific situation. I understand the THREE renderes available in Maya; Maya software, mental ray, and the Viewoport 2/ Hardware renderer.

The simple question i have asked here is why my light rig set up from DAZ to Maya is so different. and how i might go about ensuring the scenes look the same.

An answer telling me i should learn more is a little redundant because i hate to say it, since it would to me seem only logical and obvious, but asking for help on the forums is exactly what these forums are for. How am i supposed to learn anything if the answer i get when asking for help is "Go learn more". The whole point of asking for help and support is to learn so your answer doesn't help anyone.

So Let me ask another way. Has anyone had experience in SPECIFICALLY exporting scenes (not figures) from DAZ3d to Maya including their light rig, and if so what sort of modification or changes/settings were necessary to get the same light set up in Maya? Exporting from Daz to Maya is fairly important i would assume, so any help in this matter would be appreciated. I am not asking for hand holding i am asking for a direction.

I have completely re set up lighting in Maya now starting from an un-lit model exported form DAZ. but there has got to be a way to include the daz lighting and have it render the same in Maya?

I was using 3Delight renderer in Daz, and mental ray in Maya. perhaps i could get a 3delight renderer for Maya and that might solve the issue? Or should i try setting daz to render using Mental ray?

    What does everyone think?

I've export a lot of full character from DAZ to Maya, from my personal experience the only useful thing exportable are: joints, morph and skin bind. Shader and light need to be rebuilt from ground up for the render engine of your choice.
3Delight for Maya is very difficult to setup and FBX do not translate in Maya scene any of it's shader or light.

Ok so rebuilding my lights in Maya is still the best option! Awesome i really appreciate that Davide!

I did notice that the scale of my models when imported to Maya are HUGE and i needed to scale the lights to match before i could get their xyz modifier handles to be visible and selectible. think the scale of the model from Daz to maya might cause issues?

The scale is normal not huge because in Maya 1unit =1cm, this is really important if you want use Mental Ray physically. The only light influenced by it's scale is the area light (more big the light is more soft shadows you have). Hope this help.
