@Philemo: Thank you so much!
Does the "cutout" plugin work like the "stencil" feature of 3DCoat creating an actual mesh form from an a 2D image? If yes, that's great!
yep :)
I just did a test in Carrara with the "cutout" plugin and it works just like the 3DCoat "stencil" cutout feature that I have seen demonstrated.
I can't afford 3DCoat, and your free "cutout" plugin is a blessing for me, and will help me with an image idea I am working on.
Thanks Philemo
here's a quick bangle I made with a celtic texture from wikipedia
I turned into into a cylinder via blender as I didn't know how to do it in carrara (open to suggestions - couldnt get any of the modifiers to do it - I even tried vwd !! )
(in blendfer while in edit mode hit shift w (make sure centre point is on on one end of the mesh ) then pull the cursor around
thanks again Philemo!
one more this from

morphed with a modifier
.
Philemo,
Here is my "dingbat" question for today.
What do the rest of your time saver plugins do?
PBRLighting_win64
HairConvertorWin64
GMICPlugin
TriplanarWin64
I did one using the modifiers no problem...
Bend and twist modifier in the spanner room.. select bend angle and enter 360 and select axis X
this one I did as above but used 180 bend and duplicated with weld.
nice find Selina thanks for sharing
thanks Stezza, you trying to stop me using err blanda?
:)
ah the spanner room will check it out - happy Burthday too!
edit just back nice goose chase :)
never seen a modifier in the spanner room yet ;) go on, impress me and tell me where it is!!
Model---- Deform
you mean I know something you didn't!
not dingbat
just google the plugin and carrara forum
here;s basic explications:
triplanar will wrap a texture round a complicated object so it looks gooder
eg of googling - https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/166396/new-plugin
gmicplugin - gives you npr and other post processing withing Carrara
hair converter will comvert carrara hair to mesh hair
PBR lighting means you can use fancy doodah textures (Photo based ??) in Carrara - and can also use Studio iray textures in Carrara
have fun!
used the modeling room deform tool on the flag to give it a wave
yes... I find the same thing.... really cracks up if you don't
wow!! I never knew that was there - mind you I don't do much modelling these days since my manly chin deformed in all three axii
thanks Stezza :)
Edit - thanks for the pic just saw it !
EPIC
A few posts back, @head wax noted that: "PBR lighting means you can use fancy doodah textures (Photo based ??) in Carrara - and can also use Studio iray textures in Carrara"
I rarely use DAZ Studio for rendering animations, because it's always been so much slower than Carrara (though that of course depends on settings).
Haven't used IRAY much at all in DAZ Studio, because I'm usually just looking to do quick tests there before bringing into Carrara.
But with the new PBR lighting, would that make it practical to use DAZ Studio's iray textures inside of Carrara for animations? Do you (or anyone) have a feeling for how fast that renders compared to using the old / regular DAZ Studio shaders? Do PBR renders with Studio iray shaders offer a better or different look than standard shaders?
Have pretty much ignored iray sales in the past - and wondering if worht picking anything up given this new functionality in Carrara.
Thanks
Hya
here's the thread for a gander at - sorry to not have more data for you

Philemo's plugin does not load iray shaders but it does find the maps such as normal, specular, roughness etc that carrara misses on figures and objects loaded from duf if it has a material preset you can drop in the space in effects, most often you need to change things like reflection but at least you are not hunting down maps.
And hop ! a quick test to see the extraordinary possibilities of this plugg-in offered by Philemo:
1 °) Download the balloon letters here: https://deeezy.com/foil-balloon-free-3d-lettering/
2 °) In Carrara use the plug "Cutouts & Blimps"
3 °) Enjoy
Thanks again Philemo Drieux, it's great!

3°) Enjoy
Merci encore Philemo Drieux, c'est génial !
was looking all morning for this thread!
exhausted naos, lol
Awesome - many thanks!!
sadly fractals, Mandelbulber 3D and Carrara are not great bed partners
even via Hexagon
so now I am trying to use cutouts to create my fractals instead
otherwise I can see myself duplicating and replicating spheres for thhe 3D version which could be painful
it is still creating the cutout (a filled in one, I did an inverse frame easily) and I need to go to work so will find out what I get when I return
below iis a Mandelbulber 3D Pseudo Kleinian render which is the Apollonian Gasket above in 3D
wow Wendy that's really something!
Ver cool !!!!!!!!
I haven't made it yet
10 hours later I am looking at this
that image below is the Mandelbulber 3D render of one
I was using that Wikipedia image to try and make a cutouts version but it's stuck
what happenes if you don't use blimp mode?
I will find out after this finally finishes maybe
hey try some of these :)

would you believe it is still calculating
and yes opened the beta and created one from the reverse easily even as a blimp but looking at the original image it has issues, I need a better one with cleaner lines, am doing my original idea instead duplicating spheres.
