Good rendering - any tips for a returnee to upgrade the quality

I been away out of the 3D hobby for a few years (ahem.... almost 6 years) and I am back since a month or two.
I did get Genesis and some other new toys. Got Genesis 2 on the first day and enjoyed all the freebies which were new to me, but when I am rendering my renders in DAZ Studio 4.6 have the same feel they had as in Poser 3 or so. Stuff looks cool, but all skin mostly and other material still feels fake, plastic, rendered....

I am on a new learning curve here and have been looking into new stuff. UberArea things from Omnifreaker... I am not sure if that is what I seek. I might be interested into Luxus but after reading an online tutorial my head started spinning.

Importing from Poser to Vue always did miracles as I find Vue to have a superior render engine, but my Vue is very outdated and I am not sure if I am willing to invest in a new Vue and I have no idea how it works with DS 4.6.

Basically.... what tips and tricks and new tools available are there to seriously upgrade my rendering quality?

Try increasing you render settings and lights. They both have a lot to do with the quality of the skin.
