I used the ActivePose tool to move them, not the Universal tool. However, I just tested with the Universal tool: the unlocked parts moved fine, but DS crashed when I tried to move the locked parts.
OK I understand now. Yes the issue is with the universal tool. Daz should probably fix that rapidely, since it is obviously a bug. The universal tool should not lead to crash when used on locked parts (or locked parent bones) of a body. I have the feeling (and I hope I'm not wrong) that it is not a big complicated bug, so I have good hope that this will be shortly solved.
So this is still happening. Would be nice if Daz would fix this. We can't be expected to save every five minutes, and this is very frustrating.
This Daz Studio Bug has been reported (by me) and is considered as a bug (I mean transferred to the dev or tech team I don't remember the exact term). Now the only thing we can do is to wait that it is fixed. Personally I save every 5 minutes :)
Daz crashed on me and for some reason when I try to move an unlocked part, it doesn't work for me. Not sure what is wrong.
Are you sure that the part was unlocked? Because I tried on my side, and I have no issue at all when I try to move an unlocked part!!!! edit: to be more precise, when you translate an unlocked part, you have to make sure that there is enough parent bones unlocked so that this part is able to move. If you are not sure, to be completly safe, activate the rotation tool instead of the universal tool, because with rotations (bones are supposed to simply rotate), you will have no issue at all.
What version of Daz Studio are you using, so that I try in the same configuration (I tried on 2 different versions of studio and it works)? Daz is aware of the issue of crashing when moving locked part (independant from my product, you can lock something manually it's the same), and is probably working on that.
If Daz becomes too long on developping their patch, I have an idea which would consist in making the locked bones not selectable, so that there is no more accidental crash when you accidentally move a locked part (since you will not be able to select it in the viewport any longer, until you unlock it), and so that it also becomes more obvious to know what is locked or not.
EDIT: Finally I decided to develop it right now, it works really fine with the "non selectability of locked bones". Anyway I wanted to update it with a menu allowing to see all lock/unlock as menu icons, more practical than the custom actions...
An update is under development, allowing to:
- increase safety regarding Daz Studio bug, until Daz Studio bug is resolved by Daz (after that I will see what I keep or revert in the update). Now when you use the lock/unlock scripts, the locked bones will be not selectable any more, and will become selectable again when you unlock them. Furthermore, two scripts are added, one to make all bones selectabe anyway (even if they are locked), one to make all locked bones not selectable again (if you used the previous script). Finally, when you unlock one foot only or one hand only (whereas arms/legs bones are locked), a message box will inform you not to tranlate this hand or foot (rather use the rotation tool in the viewport).
- increase comfort of use: now the icons in the custom action menu V3Digitimes/Pose Mixer will use the icons of the corresponding script, for a better identification of the area you work on. Furthermore, a toolbar will be added so that you simply access the pose locking/unlocking functions directly via this toolbar (you gain two/three clicks). I plan to add one sccript to show this toolbar, one to hide this toolbar.
Everything is already well engaged, I would say 95% of the functions are implemented, (don't know how long for the 5% remaining), and I let you know how the update goes on. I'm gonna contact Daz to see how they progress on the resolution of their bug on their side. In the meantime, simply don't translate the leg or the foot if this leg is locked, or don't translate the arm or the hand if this arm is locked. Well in general, don't try to translate a locked bone.
After restarting Daz a few times, I managed to get something working with the script. I am grateful that you are so active on this, and really appreciate it. Just to clarify, when I locked the entire body, I was only trying to pose an arm. First time and second time, Daz stalled on me and crashed. I then came on here and posted, but like a stubborn person went back and tried it a few more times. After a few times, the bones for some of the body actually locked...had issues unlocking it (as well), restarted it and when I tried it again. I was very careful to look at the pose and try to see what should stay locked and unlocked. I got it as far as locking the body, and when I moved the arm, the body stayed in a locked pose, but moved with the arm in the air- so, the character moved her right hand towards a dragon and for some reason while the rest of the body was locked, it moved along with the arm pose- turned the character a bit around while the feet didn't leave the one spot. It made me chuckle, corrected it, unlocked the feet, and then carried on with the render and manually posing. Also, her arm wasn't out of position with her body, so realistically her body shouldn't have moved. Her arm was comfortable, just scratching the chin of a dragon. :)
Looking forward to the updates when it gets released. :)
Hi!
Indeed, when you lock a "body", you lock rotations only. For translations, you have a script included so that you can lock or unlock hip translations (as well as, in the main interface script, a button to lock the figure translations). I am in touch with Daz, I mean I finally found people who will be able find the people knowing where Daz is concerning the bug solving. In the meantime, I have on my side an updated version, where the locked bones are not selectable any more, which prevents probably more than 80% of the accidents. I also have a new script where you can install a toolbar, so that you have all the lock/unlock in a same toolbar area. This latest part should be tested more by me to see how it behaves "as an update", both for DIM and Smart Connect install. I'd like to submit one single update, but I still wait for Daz to tell me how much they have progressed on their side, because I basically don"t like the idea of making bones unselectable when locked, and I widh I could avoid it!
But concerning your specific translation issue, you should try to lock hip translations. And if not enough, use the main interface to lock body translations, but I am under the impression that it is at the hip level that such a translation occurs. Otherwise if you have ultimate pose master, you can do "only the arm move", pointing in the direction you want (from collar to forearm), with only the arms bones moving (nothing is locked, the IK is just made only on the arm level).
