Has anyone ever Re-Rigged a Genesis figure in another application?

I'm just a little curious to see if anyone's ever done something like this. Most of the time when I see people talking about exporting, they export the figure as fbx or collada and try to retain the rigging. Just out of curiousity --has anyone ever exported just the figure geometry and morphs and completely re-rigged that model in another application like Cinema4d, Maya, Modo, etc? Did you have to re-topologize the model in part or whole?
I am curious to find out about anyone's experiences in doing this. It seems to be difficult to track down via a web search.
