Ds4 folder placement with install manager questions...

Ok I am tired of the install manager putting my stuff in a different place than where the manual install puts them because I want to be able to use install manager because it is frigging easy and I often install a load of stuff at once. but things like Genesis characters are not found by Studio if you just let it install it where it wants, so they don't work and I have to find them and put them with the rest in the old folder system.

Is there an easy way to get all this stuff to play nice so I don't have to keep trying to fix things? I am tired of fixing things, I just want to render something dammit.

Did you point DAZ Studio to THAT folder in the Content Paths? You can have your folder any place but in the Programs Files folders.

Well I tried to show it that there was content there but wound up with loads of broken links to folders that don't exist. which folder should i point download manager to to get the stuff in the proper place since i prefer to just have my stuff where studio wants it in the first place instead of trying to change that after so many years of me being used to it? It will just confuse me otherwise....

You can Point DIM to any folder you like but DAZ Studio needs that folder ADDED to its list of content folders. This is what I mean by paths in DAZ Studio.

The DIM will install, by default, to C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library, unless you tell it otherwise.

If your content has previously gone into the Documents are in a folder called 'My Library', then you need to tell the DIM to put it there, by going to the little gear icon at the top right of the interface, and adding that path. You can tell DIM to put the content anywhere you like (except Program Files as Jaderail says), but you must select that folder BEFORE you install the content.

There is an excellent Help file with the DIM, and several videos on YouTube, but have a look at the image below. If you need any more help, just ask.

I avoid all the issues with DIM and DAZ installers by not using them ;-)

I'm quite happy DAZ is finally going to zips after years of griping about the installers. The only way to be sure everything is getting installed right is to do it manually. I just hope DAZ decides to retro update older items. I downloaded some zips that turned out to be the Mac files, so had to download the installers; of coarse I installed to a dummy folder, I know better then to let installers install to where they want to. That is how I ended up with 3 different content folders in 3 different places on my comp.

I have the thing putting stuff where I want it now, thanks for the help on that but the image here, where do you find that screen? I have looked and can't find it.

If you have it putting stuff where you want it, I would say you found the screen I posted?

The screen Jaderail posted? Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager.

Yeah, thanks, I guess I just missed the gear. And I have not spent much time on the forums lately so any threads where this kind of stuff came up I missed it and I am not good at picking the right words to search for.
