Hi, RiverSoftArt, I finally took the time to suss out what was causing my Install Failed! on the update: (the pdf manual was still in the folder on my drive, and it would not update until I deleted it).

So, now I have everything set up, I have checked the boxes of all the items I want to convert; I hit Execute, and it converts ONE item. I hit Convert Item(s), and it converts ONE item. I highlight the entire list, and it converts ONE item. What am I doing wrong?

Do you the Continue on Error option selected?  It sounds like you have the Stop on Error option selected.

I have Continue On Error selected.

BTW, I followed the PDF exactly. Hopefully, the Save function works, and I won't have to go through the list again unchecking the items that are not to be converted.

Hmmmm.... Can you turn on output_debug in Data/RiverSoft Art/Common/RSCCConstants.dsa ("output_debug = true" instead of "output_debug = false") and then rerun it and post the Daz log (not the log in the script dialog)?

    Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. I went to sleep. I went to Data/RiverSoft Art/Common/RSCCConstants, but when I clicked on it or opened it, it just opened up a new Daz Studio.

BTW, I created a folder in MyDaz3DLibrary as my Output Directory because I use an external drive for content, but the recommended directory is on my C drive.

    Here's the Daz log nonetheless:

  • You need to open RSCCConstants.dsa in a text editor like Notepad.  Could you do that, set output_debug = true and try again?

    Thanks.

  • Which version of Daz Studio are you using?  The "TypeError: Result of expression 'transfer.setParentToFigure' [undefined] is not a function" should not be occurring.

    I'm using 4.9.4.117

I also did as you told me. I have the Daz log now, but it's too long to post completely.

Just post the part from when you start the script, run it once, and then exit.

  • Ah hah!  I know what is wrong.  Daz added that setParentToFigure method in 4.10.0.50.  I need to do it myself and not depend on the Transfer utility.  If you upgrade to 4.10.0.50, everything will be hunky dory laugh  But since you probably don't want to do that, I will create a patch. smiley   I should be able to fix it tomorrow morning and then it will be up to Daz how fast they push a patch out.  In the meantime, if you PM me with your email address, I will send you an updated file tomorrow morning.

Thanks so much. My apologies for adding to your list of headaches with this product. Now I can go ahead and get the male version.

I used the G3F to G8F converter in beta 4.11 and altho it converted the Aerial Dancer outfit, the outfit can be applied to G8 but when you pose G8 the outfit doesn't move with the pose.  Does this not work in the Beta 4.11 yet? I deleted the converted files and converted again in 4.10 and the converted and posed just fine.

I don't use the beta much at all so I cannot say.  Was it all outfits or just the one?  If it is all, I will try with one of mine and then report to Daz.

I tried converting both the Aerial Dancer outfil and Bra and panty lingerie set in the 4.11 beta and altho they converted they didn't move when posing the character. After that I figured the script didn't work in the beta and switched to 4.10.

Another issue is the shoes in the lingerie set semed to convert in 4.10, but wouldn't move with the character when I tried to pose her.  I tried parenting them to genesis 8 but that didn't work either. How do you make the shoes move with the pose?

Huh, they should be moving with the pose.  Have you tried turning off the Use Foot Pose.  There is already a pose I wrestling with as regards to that, and maybe there is another bug.

I tried turning off foot pose and that didn't work either, I am not sure if its something I am doing wrong tho. whether I have foot pose on or off the shoe doesn't fit properly on the foot and doesn't move with any pose. I even just tried applying the gen 3 foot pose before adding the shoe.

Set output_debug = true, and then run on the offending clothing item and paste the log for the run (from Daz's Log.txt)?  That will give me more information and may tell me if something is failing in the conversion.

I have had this problem too, it's not the convertor fault but the latest Daz Beta.

It's all to do with selecting the character first

The selection of the figure is not as easy as it was. wether it's a bug or not, I don't know.

If you click on (select) your character first, then double click on the clothing, it works fine.

Before you could just drag and drop the clothing onto the character,

You can still drag and drop the clothing onto the character, but the character MUST be selected first, otherwise the clothes look as though they are fitted but will not move when the character is posed

  • First off, I want to say a big thank you to RiverSoftArt for making these (just bought the male version too) scripts/utilities! As somebody that develops tools (not for Daz yet) I can only imagine the headache(s) that came along with developing these!

Earlier in this thread, I was seeing posts where people were mentioning that the shoulders were fitting sorta weirdly (like shoulder pads are being placed on the figure when shirts are being applied). I too was seeing this (why I ended up reading the thread in the first place) and I decided I'd join in the fun with a post :). I may have stumbled upon a "fix" that seems to help with this.

    AutoFit: The Issue!

If I select the g8f character and load a shirt onto her here is what I get. Notice the shoulder area looking pretty puffy...

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/071st0y0mnvrlm0/auto_fit.jpg?dl=0

I haven't tested the next process on a ton of outfits, but I have tested it on a handful (only female at this point) with what I consider to be great results!

    The "Fix":

    1) Load the Genesis 8 figure

    2) load the converted shirt asset into the scene without selecting the genesis 8 figure. This will simply load the asset into the scene.

here is what this looks like: https://www.dropbox.com/s/mkd3pxny2finmlx/not_fit.jpg?dl=0

as you can see the shoulder area is a little more conforming to the base mesh (if you let each image load you can flip through tabs to see the differences :) ).

    3) Transfer the rigging of the g8 figure to the asset you want to fit.

    - first select genesis 8 figure in the scene

    - then ctrl select the asset you're trying to fit in the scene (You want both items selected... and you want the figure selected first).

    - select the "Joint Editor Tool" (looks like a bone with a pencil through it)

    - in the viewport: right click --> edit --> Transfer Rigging (figure space)

    4) Now you can fit the asset to the genesis 8 figure and the shoulders should not pop up like shoulder pads are being inserted :).

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/7hb4blvgx5u5bjx/fit_after_rig_transfer.jpg?dl=0

Like I said, I haven't tested this on a ton of assets. But, the dozen or so that I have tried this has worked very well on.

Hopefully, this will be useful to others.

You're welcome!  Your fix is sorta what I am working on.  I have been reworking the conversion process, and that underarm and shoulder issue should go away in the next update.  I have been battling Daz crashes, but I finally got a handle on that today.  Now, the only major issue is that footwear do not work nearly as well with the new conversion process.  Once I get that I think people will really love the update.  So far it has:

    • Improved conversion process, getting rid of most of the underarm pokethrough and shoulder padding problems
    • Added ability to detect if Daz Versions already exist for clothing items being added (so you don't convert something you already have)
    • Added ability to memorize unconverted items so that the script won't attempt to convert them later
    • Added message dialog when no items are selected and user clicks Execute From Selected, Convert Item(s), and Force Convert Item(s)
    •  Fixed bug by trying to call DzTransferUtility.setParentToFigure method, which was not introduced until Daz Studio 4.10.0.50

Sorry took so long for me to try this again, but this time the converted clothes moved with G8 but the shoes dont fit the character after conversion and definitely don't work with the foot pose. I attached the section from the log from when I loaded the  outfit.

You need to post the part where you are using the converter, not when you are loading the foot pose.

Set output_debug = true, and then run on the offending clothing item and paste the log for the run (from Daz's Log.txt)?  That will give me more information and may tell me if something is failing in the conversion.

So sorry , I will need to delete the converted clothing and reconvert them I guess?

You don't need to delete them.  If you set the overwrite option, you can just re-run the script on the offending item.

I reconverted it with the overwrite option and copied the log file where it showed the conversions, also attached a render of what the converted shoes do when I pose G8 and use the G3 footpose. I tried to pose the shoes and feet to fit better but the shoes are one item and move together so I couldn't move them separately to make them fit and when I moved G8's feet the shoes are patented nd just move with them.

Good news is when I posed G8 this time the converted items followed.

Once i figure out where I am going wrong with this, I will convert all my G3 items to G8, just need to figure it all out so I don't need to do it more than once

I am glad you got it working.  Based on the log, the script recognized the shoes as footwear but did not find the foot pose (it tries to find something with the words "foot" and "pose" in the product file list).  I am actively working on trying to improve the foot stuff, but as of now, it is a known limitation of the converter.  One thing I have noticed is that always select the root node of G8F before starting the script.  The code is supposed to do it for you, but I have seen weird behavior if you have selected a child node sometimes.
