Tree feathers in the plant room

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I did try to search the forum.

Is there a way to make leaves grow directly from the trunk and have no branches? I thought this could be a way to whip up quick feathers. I suspect I am wrong, lol.

The screen capture shows needles on a branch which is what I had in mind.

Attempt 2:

Hide trunk, and use a bunch of straight branches with pine needles. Not exactly close up material yet, but maybe promising.
