Trouble Installing 3rd party content ..

edited December 1969 in Daz Studio Discussion

I'm sure you've seen this a million times already but I just can't seem to figure out how to add new content that I download from other websites (like from ShareCG). Most of the tutorials I've seen for installing 3rd party content talk about a "Content" folder, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Please help.

The 'Content' folder is what the folder was actually called in DAZ Studio up to version 3.0.

When DS4 came out, the content folder was called My Library, and with the advent of the DAZ Install Manager (DIM), it was changed to My DAZ 3D Library.

If the ZIP file contains a My Library folder, then just merge the contents of it with your own library folder (whatever the name) That is assuming that you are using a PC, Mac has a different way of merging folders.

What is your DAZ Studio content folder called, and is there a specific ZIP file that you are having problems with?

Even DAZ zips aren't packed in a "my library" folder, they are still packed in a "content" folder. And as I have said before this changing the name of the content folder is in no way confusing :long:

Your views on this subject are well known Stan.

The point is, it does not matter in the slightest what your content library folder is called, you empty the contents of the folder called 'Content' into your DAZ Studio Library folder, that way, users can call the folder what they want to call it.

The term Content folder is a general term, it means ANY folder that holds 3D content. The Names Change but the function does not. My Library is a content folder, My DAZ 3D Library is a content folder, Runtime is a content folder, My STUFF is a content folder. Any folder that holds content is a content folder.

The DIM zip files are confusing. I know this. The Term Content is just a NAME to show that below here is the content. When used with DIM that folder is stripped and only the below items used. Just as a user only moves the content by hand. It's the same.

I've tried putting it into the "Content Management Service" folder under Program Files. I tried putting it in the "My Library" folder (the one that has the "Presets" and "scenes" folders) and it still didn't work.

The one I'm trying to add right now is the SOTO_Genesis_Flat Top. (should be on ShareCG) If it helps at all I'm using Windows XP.

Put the contents of the My Library folder in the zip (not the My Library folder itself) in the folder you use for content - \DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library in your Documents folder is the DS4 default, \My DAZ 3D Library in the Public Documents folder is the DIM default. When asked if you want to merge folders, say yes.

Assuming I read that correctly, I already tried that and it didn't work. I tried putting the folders that I found inside the "My Library" folder from the .zip into my own folder and the hair style (in this case) still didn't show up.

Then you might need to Know it will only show in the Content Library Tab as it is not Smart content. It will never load as Smart content because the needed file is not made, metadata. I installed it just fine.

I don't see why it's working for you but not for me. Since I'm doing what you're saying. I'm putting the files from the .zip into the "My Library" folder and I'm looking in the Content Library area for the hair style but it's just not there.

.... I feel like an idiot. I kept looking under the "My DAZ 3D Library" instead of "My Library" in the "Content Library" area. Thank for all of your help.

Your welcome... You can MERGE the two My Library folders if you like. Then you would only need to deal with one.

Had the same issue myself. Found it if you go DAZ Studio Formats > Daz 3d (note- I have 2 D3D spots, choose the one that has the content management in the next box) > People > Genesis > Hair > Soto
