Daz Studio, OBJ's and Rigging Question

Let's say I download a cool human-like model, but to my dismay it's in OBJ format and I can't pose it. Is there a way I could use Daz Studio to Rig the figure so I can pose it within the program? And if someone could point me to a in-depth tutorial that would be great.

Yes, you need to use the Content Creator Tools that come with DAZ Studio 4.5 Pro. Here is a link to all the rigging documentation we have: http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/userguide/creating_content/rigging/start

You're two most important tools are going to be the joint editor tool and the weight map tool. The former allows you to actually build your skeleton, while the latter is what binds the mesh to the skeleton.

There is this : http://www.daz3d.com/rigging-original-figures-in-ds4-pro in the store here.

By Blondie9999, it is about the most comprehensive tutorial you will find I think.

How would I do that without the ability to "Fit to"? Last I checked, you can't do that with OBJ files.

    oh yes you can
(not fit to but rig to)
get genesis as near in shape as possible to the object
which has to be imported in default position to Genesis
re-exporting is one way to do this
then open the little backwards male symbol icon
pick source genesis current, your obj as target
tick use near vertices slide it right up
you can also click on morphs and tick both boxes on right to add Genesis morphs
    then accept

Transfer utility would be a great way to start, but you will probably still need to adjust your weight maps. The nice thing is you won't be painting your maps from scratch. To use the transfer utility make sure you have Genesis (or G2F if you'd rather) in the scene as well as your .obj file. Make sure they are close together, and line up as much as possible like Wendy said. Next click the transfer utility button (sort of looks like an arrow.) You need to be in city limits and it will show up on the right. Choose Genesis (or G2F) as the source and your .obj as the target. In the options make sure you have weights selected.
