Well this is saving me money ...
When DAZ released Genesis 2 Female, I was appalled. I posted at the time the reasons, amongst which was the terrible effect I foresaw on the clothing content market both for Genesis 2 Female and for further clothing for Genesis. Terrible for me, that is, with the kinds of clothing I want (which is not that restricted, as I want modern, SF, and fantasy/historical - but fulfilling certain requirements). This was going to be a step back to the worst of the V4/M4 clothing market, I thought, after the much MUCH healthier clothing market there's been since Genesis up to the Genesis 2 Female release.
I must now confess to being surprised - bit not in a good way. I thought there's be very little clothing for Genesis 2 female or new clothing for Genesis I'd want. It now turns out I was being optimistic. Since the day of the Genesis 2 Female release there's been NO clothing I've wanted
No single item I'd want for Genesis 2 Female if I were to decide to use the figure after all. Not in the V6 starter or Pro packs, not in the Gia 6 starter or Pro packs, not any of the G2F/V6/Gia6 clothing items or sets released separately. Not one thing. Not one.
And no clothing released for Genesis since the G2F release either. There was one - just one - set with a kind of clothing I do buy: that skateboarder set. Not that I would ever render a skateboarder (so the associated props and pose packs were never in consideration), but a t-shirt and the low baggy jeans and baseball cap are things I'd consider. Except I already have a stack of Genesis t-shirts, most of which are full of style and effect morphs, unlike the plain one in the skateboarder pack. And I already have one pair of Genesis baggy jeans, and two more that will morph into those type of jeans, and all of those are way more detailed and useful, being full of style and effect morphs, unlike the jeans in the skateboarder pack. I even already had several baseball caps. So, no clothing for Genesis either, except one set I wouldn't buy because I already had those things in better versions.
It appears that, as I expected after the G2F release, the DAZ marketplace is now dead to me for any new clothing, and DAZ and the clothing PAs are no longer getting any of my money. Well, being disabled and with little money to spare, I shall look on the bright side that I will have more money for other things.
After 9 years as a customer, and thousands of dollars spent, it's a shame, though. And the store's gone back to being something I'd be too embarrassed to show anyone too.
Ow - too much typing, too much pain. Won't be carrying on any discussion, but felt a need to put it 'on the record'.
Comments
I agree.
Thanks for putting this on the record
OT I just installed Dawn nothing works with auto fit more disappointment along with Daz forcing the use of DIM to d/l the new beta studio this is a pretty lousy 3D day...
On the bright side, the R&D on the new 3D Figures (G2 and Dawn) you mentioned cost the companies involved mucho dinero, yet your are not out a dime to acquire and mess with em.
So it could be worse...
But as they say, they build what sells. Voting by our wallets and holding your pesos for figures and wardrobe items you like most will ensure it gets the most attention.
I do vote with my wallet but, alas, apparently there are many out there that want what I don't. I also share DavidGB's opinion on the look of the store. I guess everything has to be "edgy" these days.
Although I quite like the realistic look of the new G2F figure, I agree re the clothing, and the savings.
So...you're upset because no one has put out any clothing that appeals to you? Seems kind of silly. And I dont see what that has to do with Genesis 2.
I haven't bought any recent new clothing (aside from the retro party dress) but that doesn't make me want to be upset with DAZ or the PA's. I simply wait or look around elsewhere for something.
>_>
I don't see the point of posts like this. They are all full of "I don't like this, I don't like that, I don't want the other" but nobody really tells Daz what they DO want. Ok, the OP mentioned jeans and t-shirts, but that was the only hint he was willing to give.
I'll chime in on that - I hone in on non-fictional urban and rural everyday content styled in realistic & semi-realistic toon based on timeless or current themes. Stuff like restaurants, airports, streets, taxis, theaters, bars, beaches, theme parks, lakes, ski-slopes... Some GOVERNMENT stuff... More MOCAP!! So many sites and freebies are focused on sex and guns - Lots of competiotion on that. More PA's offering 3D Game Pub licensing.
MORE ANIMALS... MANY MORE ANIMALS. Fill an ARC
Uber Plants - gotta have greens!
Dawn is a completely separate figure by a completely separate company. They are not required to maximize compatibility with other figures. You can however create your own clones for your own use.
..same here
Have my PC coupon, have a GC, and the one product that actually got me interested in G2F has just been released (Zev0's Growing Up).
However..,
...not only has the G2F Morph Bundle gone up in price, but the V4 to G2F clone has disappeared from the store as well.
...some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.
..and even the bleedin' smilies still don't show up for me unless I am logged out. Go Figure.

I was going to post the link again for lulz but I think Vaskania and Mattymanx have it covered.
^lol

 but she is supposed to be bummerless:
"Are you searching for a 3D figure that works great natively in BOTH Poser and DAZ Studio?"....."every bit as versatile as the other popular figures available, if not even more versatile in some important ways"..." to be compatible with much of your existing content library, utilities, and resources, yes?"
Well, the OP said he already had enough of those in his Genesis 1 content, which means he can autofit it if he wants to use it with G2F. So I'm not even sure what the complaint is about. He said the V4 M4 market is the worst, which is probably the largest variety of clothes available, since it's the most mature figure, so again, not sure what the complaint is.
And I have seen PA commercials for up and coming jeans that really look awesome. Not to mention I have already bought WAY too much stuff for G2F in the short time shes been out, and a lot of its in the SciFi/Fantasy genre, as well as good ole basic stuff. So I'm not sure how he missed that stuff.
If its not to your taste then don't buy it. But, when I look around, I don't see much better out there, so if you need new stuff RIGHT NOW then I guess your out of luck. I see people fawning over "Dawn" but frankly, I was completely underwhelmed by what I saw in morphs, skins, and clothes. Most of it isn't even supported on DS anyway. And for the people that complain about buying stuff for a new figure, thats gonna be a HUGE investment to get that thing anywhere near V4/Gen1/G2F.

OT I was under the impression that Dawn was suppose to be an alternative to not being forced to buy everything again for a new figure which alot o ppl are put off by being forced to rebuy everything & the genesis shoes being broken once again... From what I see Dawn is geared toward poser folks. I too have not bothered with G2 since I have a load of V4 & genesis stuff they still both work fine (as seen in example below) . This trying to force me to use DIM is not cool. I did submit a registered complaint http://bobvan.deviantart.com/art/136-391848167
Dawn is geared towards the Poser crowd that wanted an alternative to V4 that has updated geometry, without installing DSON for G2F (they call it 'native'). If you were looking to save money forget it. In fact the reason there's so much hype, is all the other sites seeing a new opportunity to sell stuff for a new figure, most of which is Poser-centric, since they probably don't even use DS. It looks to me like they just added DS support for Dawn just so they could claim a larger potential market, to compete with V4.
I have no idea if her geometry is better than V4 or not, but I am impressed G2F, V6, and Gia. They seem to morph better (for females) than Gen1 even with less shapes. (and you can add Gen1 shapes with Kattey's tutorial and add skins with Mattymanx's V4 clone) And you can autofit your old wardrobe to G2F or go further with SickleYield's rigging.
As far as DIM goes, I sympathize with you, since when they first introduced it I was pretty leary of it, but I gave it a chance. I'm really glad I did. I would hate to go back to installers now. I recently got a new laptop. One click and everything downloads to a new content folder. Anything I buy shows up in the window, downloads and installs automatically. Yes there are hiccups sometimes, like with this beta, It keeps saying Download Failed for some reason. But overall the time it's saved is enormous.
WOOT: I just rechecked DIM, and hit Download. It went through and installed correctly in about 30 seconds. Seriously, DIM rocks.

To each our own I have 400G of content between my Poser DS 4 gen and genesis content I am not starting over from scratch. I too just built a monster 32G system with a good heat sync & cooling fans and Fire pro AMD 2G DDR 5 card & have all my content on a 2G external since I also play around on my i7 notebook (which I dropped a SSD drive in love those things!) I have lists of all my installed content and was given a good tip to find all files if I happen not to have read me file using a text editor to locate all files to remove... Im not saying its not cool to have DIM I just don't want to be forced into using it....My fans dont give a rat's peetooee if the corner of a mouth smiling is slightly better. At the end of the day it still looks like fake rendered ppl nice quality ones though...
That sounds like an awesome system, and a LOT of content. :) My new laptop is the RoG G750jx with the new i7. I keep my programs on the SSD and the content on the HDD.
Here's a suggestion for using DIM without messing with your old content. You can set up a second content folder with the new content you download, and keep the bulk of your old stuff in the old folder. Then just list both folders in the DazStudio prefs. When you start DIM you can select what you dont want to reinstall, and use the "hide" feature so it doesn't install in the new folder.
I do well selling custom stories. Paid for the system and other things. I re invested alot of it back in content. I get that they are in business to make money. Truth be told Im a content hoarder & have waaaay more then I will ever use, its like I told my wife when she asked why I have all of that "It's there if I want it LOL! I use Reality & Luxrender. Thats the nice thing about have 2 machines I can start a whole series set her queue rendering and just let er rip while I do other things.
Edit according to their own page one is suppose to have the option to use installers? So what gives?
The Daz store still trumps the competition when it comes down to quality and service, which are two of the main reasons I still purchase the majority of my content here. You can convert a lot of the Genesis 1 content to Genesis 2, and if you weren't planning on using Genesis 2 then there's an autofit clone which allows you to take Genesis 2 content onto Genesis 1. Everyone wins.
There's also MallenLane's V4 clone which is hands-down the best and most accurate conversion I've seen to date! Even shoes and dresses autofit near flawlessly, and you'd be very hard pressed to tell the difference between a native and an autofit item. I was absolutely stunned by the quality of fits, and it opens up the entire V4 library to me which I hadn't really delved into before now. In fact, the fits are so fantastic, I'm not-so-secretly hoping that MallenLane will create a K4 clone for her too so I can use my old kids stuff with Zev0's new Growing Up morphs.
Anyway, you've really got to look at the competition to compare and contrast, and really what do we have in the way of alternative stores? Well, Renderosity is the main one. Their store currently has no way of filtering search results by compatible figures or software, and no means of integrating installed content into the Smart Content pane without manually creating the metadata yourself. There's no tidy means of accessing downloads either, with users having to trawl their purchase history to locate the download links, so if you're searching for an older download you could be clicking on dozens of old purchases to find it.
Anyway, this post isn't intended to bash Rendo, simply to compare. I've made purchases there I'm quite happy with and will continue to do so if they release items I want. But to say the Daz store is an embarrassment just because it lacks items which you are after is a bit much.
I admit I was skeptical about the change when I first heard about it, but it's made my life easier and that can only be a good thing.

what i wonder, is why the info remains so poor? (basic info= fine, the more advanced stuff= keep's a secret)
how to get your own figures working with autofit or with any other daz soft tool.
(a start from new figure/object to finished)....
the more advanced stuff and secrets remains hidden to the community. (if everybody know's how it all work, who would still buy :) )
seems only a few PA's get more info then the basic users here.
that's what frustrates me the most here and was a good reason to leave this place.
Im not interested in DIM and want the option as indicated above...

It's not a mystery. Let's say you have Figure A, and want an autofit for it to fit clothing for Figure B.
Create a morph for Figure A to get it to look as close to Figure B as possible.
Save the morph out. Now go into the property editor > find the morph on the left side > right click it
Set the Grouping to HIdden/Clone, and change the Content Type under Presentation to Modifier/Clone.
You'll need the CMS on to get some of these options.
I also have a *dsj file saved for good measure with my morph from loading Figure A with Figure B. Select A first and B second then go to File > Save As > Support Asset > Clone. Hit Yes on the prompt.
This information has been floating around plenty of times. It's just up to you to find it and adapt it from one figure to another.
For example, if you find something saying how to get a clone of one figure for Genesis, the process is still the same, you're just using different figures.

and where can i read such things like this in the official manual or tutorial section?
like 've said, the basic user info is available. the more advanced tricks & do's not.
I google it. For example, "daz creating figure clones".
That leads you to http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/25340 which leads you to http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=190236
Read down on the second link for Wiseavatar's post. It's a step by step process.
That 2nd link actually shows up itself in the same google results a few hits down.
Sounds like our everyday tabloids then ;-)
The problem that PAs tells us over and over again is that "Sex and guns sells", much like tabloids and commercial news channels, sex and guns sells. Btw, I really like handguns for my renders, so I'm not complaining about those...
I render most in the roaring 20s and the dirty 30s, and I really hunt around to find clothes and props that can fit the theme. The problem is that the PAs has to choose, make a few people happy and make a few buck or make the majority happy and make a living.
So, instead of just making a plain complain, head over to the Product Suggestions and tell the PAs what you are looking for, and get those in the same group of interest join in and chime in, this might wake the interest of a PA to take on what you are looking for.
