You know I had an aha moment the other day and realised that the smoothing and weightmapping seem to be linked to a certain degree. I've only just started to look at the weightmapping and discovered that it has a smoothing tool in there. Started me wondering about all those hidden options that I couldn't work out...Richard, am I on the right track or have I gone in the wrong direction altogether. When you use the smoothing option in weightmapping it allows you to fix the distortions on the mesh and that's essentially what smoothing is doing it smooths out the distortions. What was it they said about a little knowledge being a dangerous thing? Probably got it all wrong....sorry for the rambling...

I'm afraid they are different - the smoothing in the weight painting tool is blurring the weight map, so if there's a sharp change in values causing a ridge (as often happens with skirts) the smoothing will average the values out and give a smoother transition.

I mean THE smoothing modifier really .. Should the weightmapping done without THE smoothing modifier , because it Males a Lot of Trouble , to much Artefacts and Strange Polygons around..

I assumed you meant that, but you still haven't really explained what the issues are - some pictures might help.

Are you using the Generic or Original Shape Matching option for the smoothing? Have you tried the other?

Aaah...I was on the wrong track then. Pity I thought I might have finally worked out some of the hidden dials.

Also if you have the hidden dials showing changing the weight to .70 or .75 helps with some items.

You need to check Show Hidden properties in the Parameters pane option menu - either right-click on the pane's tab, or click the menu button in the top corner.
