Heh, and I thought this was going to be another of the "DAZ isn't making anything *I* want, so everyone else must know!" threads. Glad to hear you're saving money and getting stuff you like. :)

I thought I would just turn that around.

    Exactly.

One of the Flash Sale item was sold to Daz so I was able to use the "$5 off any Daz Originals" coupon on an already 60% off discounted item.

Well, no, they dont really save you a lot of money and you didnt really save a lot of money. All those Fast Grabs, Fast Grab Frenzys, Flash Sales, Coupons etc. are just a bait, a lure, something that is pretending to be something that it really isnt.

So it's not a sale and I didn't get those two Predatron products I bought yesterday afternoon for less than I would have paid if I'd bought them in the morning? Looked cheaper to me.

I understand the whole you still spent some money so you didn't actually save money thing, I've used it on my wife, but if I was going to buy that item anyway buying for 60% less than I would have paid otherwise is a cost savings.

And yes, sales, coupons etc. are marketing tools meant to lure you into the store and to hopefully get you to buy something and maybe while you're there you'll find something that's not on sale that you have to have as well. Every retailer, either online or brick and mortar, uses these same tactics. It's no different from the 100's of coupons that get stuffed in my mailbox every week - well except Daz's coupons and sales ads don't kill any trees and clutter up landfills. :)

Hey we could have a contest, to see who has saved the most over a given period of time, sounds like fun.

If it was not something I previously wanted, and simply bought it now just because it was on sale, then you would be correct.

you didnt really save a lot of money.

There was an item that I wanted but did not want to pay full price.
Waiting for the annual PA sale to get it would allow me to get it at 50% off.
The flash sale increased it to 60% off.
If it was on Fast Grab, it would have been 70% off.
But applying the $5 off coupon to the Flash Sale made it 80% off.
So I got something on my Wish List for 20% of the regular price.
Therefore, I'd have to disagree with your perception.

Well, no, they dont really save you a lot of money

There was a specific reason why I chose those words for the title of this thread. SnowSultan got it.

its non valid, nobody is going to pay that price anyway, so why write it all?

Every now and then someone will be looking for a specific item, such as:

This person looking for the V for Vendetta Mask http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/21530/

Or this person looking for Transformering Robots http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/24069/

Or this person looking for a Multi-Shot Grenade Launcher http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/26784/

If they need it immediately for a project and can't wait indefinitely for a sale, then they will have to pay full price for it.
Can I prove that someone actually paid full price? No.
But can you prove that, in the entire history of the Daz store, everyone has never paid full price for something?

    nonexistent, imaginary price

By that same logic, we can conclude that if no one believes what you're saying then it's all imaginary and completely invalid. ;-)

Whoa. That's pretty deep there, Ben. But it seems like you have an aversion to the word sale as there is no such thing as a sale if I'm interpreting it correctly. So would it be more appropriate to just say, "I bought some stuff at a price I found extremely reasonable to me."

But it seems like this would be best as a philosophical discussion rather than something practical in regards to purchases here. And I have to disagree with your statement of " in usual human thinking, only now is all the time." If that was true, then we would not study history or plan for the future as those concepts would not be possible for us to grasp if "now is all the time."

EDIT: What happened to Ben? Did his "now" become the past as I was typing and now cease to exist?

I prefer the fast grabs, because of that 70%! (That's how I got the S5 and H5 Pro Bundles.) Sometimes those flash sales are 60%, but I haven't seen any with things I might like that I haven't purchased yet.

I like the hairs, like last week I got a Neftis hair. As for character morphs, I really, really, really want Anubis. :)

I can, because I do it all the time! :)
Fact is, the way the market has been, pricing for this stuff is just really low, in my honest opinion. Not recent market, either - but for a l o n g time. I say this because, when I buy something and load it into Carrara and start optimizing it for my use, I am constantly awe struck with the quality and completeness of the products. Some of my artist buddies put out their products at times when I can't spend. So later, I buy it when It's no longer on sale. This doesn't bother me in the slightest, and I think I could possibly still win chohole's incredibly fun-sounding challenge.

My wife and I were considering either the benefit, or lack of benefit that I get from being a yearly PC member. We started going through what I got, and what I've paid. Before we even started to get a chance to see what I would have paid... OMG!!! The PC dues are a no brainer!

I have become a huge petipet fan since he's come aboard DAZ3D. Really? $1.99 for 'This'? In the cart it goes! So I check the non PC price, and it's still an amazing deal! Yes, I am a huge fan of far more reasonably priced merchants here as well - I only used petipet as an example. But even some of the more expensive products. Like those from Stonemason and Faveral (again, just used for a quick example), are a real deal considering what they've gone through to make each item. This is top-notch stuff!

I am reasonably good at being able to model my own things. Having the time to do it is another thing, entirely. If I were to give myself only $10/hour, I ask myself: "Do I pay the $35, or do I make it myself?" and I answer myself: "No Brainer!"

    Yes.

Interestingly, it has been shown that even pigeons can remember past events and anticipate future events. For example, if a pigeon tended to be turning to its left when fed by a human it will come to imagine that turning left is the cause, and so will start to circle to its left when it's hungry.

That's crazy talk. Everybody knows we have to circle to the right to get fed.

Which just goes to show how superstitious pigeons are. I've seen them avoiding black cats too!

As of the store switch to magento I'd spent just over $9,600 :gulp: and saved something like $40,000.

That savings figure is based on looking at list price for everything - PC items, freebies, individual items purchased in bundles, fastgrabs - everything. The $9,600 is actual cash outlay over a six year period.

Now the question -- do I even qualify for an honorable mention?

Someday I need to look at expenditures/savings over the last 18 months . . . probably need to have paramedics standing by when I do, though. %-P
