Right and left of model

Hi, I was making a shirt today and realized my right and left was not matching the right and left of the model. I've read several tutors that put, facing the computer, left was on my right hand of right was on my left hand. I made the UV map that way and have been doing that for a while now and just today realized that when I add color to what I made the left sleeve the color showed up on right sleeve.

So when facing the computer and you are making right and left sleeves. Do I go opposite or the same side? Which is the standard.

Thanks for help with my silly question which I should know the answer to. :)

Not sure of the answer to that, but I have noticed that in a lot of UV maps wehn there is a back and front part og a garment, the back will be shown opposite to the front, so if they are side by side on the UV map the left side of the front (which is on the right ) is next to the left side of the back, (which is on the left). Which actually makes a little bit of sense if you think that they are flattening out a mesh that is 3 dimensional.

So the placement of the sleeves could be governed by which part of the main garment controls the sleeve parts, if that makes sense?

What 3D program are you using to model in and are you using the same to UV map?

In general when creating a model that is identical on both sides like a shirt you only want to build half of it. Then you will mirror the mesh, subdivide, clean up the mesh and uv map. So the center of the item is on 0 of the X axis.

Hi, I made the shirt in MD then made each piece a different color and export as a obj. I open the obj in UV Mapper professional, select by material (color) then name (assigned) the material color by name: front, back, R sleeve, L sleeve. The sleeves are one piece right and left.

I made an example image. I really can't find a way to explain this correctly. It shows the image I have been using as an example of right and left then what happens in daz. My right question, I guess, is in uv mapper which side do I name right and which do I name left?

Example right and left is poser because I couldn't find a daz example.
    Thanks

Looks like the UV's are layed out from Left to Right as a book is read.

I have occasionally seen textures with writing on them that was backwards.
