Are there any 1950s style General Stores available for purchase anywhere, or even better, download as a freebie?

I don't think you'll find a specific 1950's General Store on Daz3d, but I may be wrong. The Daz3d store search function is so darned finicky. Closest things I could find using the Daz3d search are Corner Store and Poses for Genesis 3 Male and Female and DeadWater General Store, and neither are within the 1950's time frame.

Sharecg has a few promising options, but will require you stock and customize to get exactly what you're looking for. There are tons of store props available on sharecg and renderocity and likely right here on Daz3d.

Lynwood, a nice 1930's neighborhood and 1940 Cave Gas Station by Ockham. Both have stores with interiors.
