how do i extrude in all directions like the polys around the middle of a sphere? it keaps extruding ugly.

make your sphere in model room

select all polys

extrude with extrude tool either holding down the ctrl or the shift key

one will extrude outwards atr 90 degrees the other other will extrude in the same plane as the poly - so give you a kind of inset

you can crease your edges at the different steps to give you cleaner edges
