8.5 Parameters Tab

Does anyone know if the parameters for Genesis can be grouped (like they are in Daz Studio)? If I know the parameter name, I can find it with the search feature, but if I'm just browsing it's hard to find things. No problem if there isn't--I just didn't know if I were missing something.

Looking forward to the 26th, BTW :-)

And, I guess a new Mike is on the way (G2M), based on the announcement.....

There a drop down box at the top where you can specify filtering options by the group, if that's what you mean... I love it.

I was looking for more of some kind of customer grouping or a secondary grouping similar to the DS shaping tab. I see now how the option in the drop down change based on whether I select Genesis or Actor---I didn't have Actor selected and couldn't find the Aging Morphs---

Once again, user error rears it's head!

I'm still totally in the dark in Studio. Well, maybe not that bad - it does tend to lead one by the hand, after all...
But I'm still jumping back and forth between the official release, 8.1 and the beta build 204. Official for official business and the beta for my own stuff. Is it just me, or do you find that 8.5 beta renders faster?
Anyways, when I'm working with my characters, I always end up smacking myself in the forehead when I realize I'm in 8.1! lol
That Parameters tab is much better for me, now that I got used to using it. Actually, I've loved the change from the start. I also read about the 'zeroing' features being moved to the 'Animation' menu before needing to use one - so that stuck in and was in place when I needed it. Another improvement that just blows away what we've already had. Now we have many options for what gets zeroed.

I love 8.5 beta and am jumping out of my skin with anticipation for getting a taste of the final version! :)

So I take it that DS allows for 'user-created' grouping of morphs... that's hot! I've just bought PaintShop Pro for post work type stuff - and they've included stuff like that - so like with filters - since apps like that can handle five hundred, thirty-seven million filters plus or minus a bazillion or so, they've given us "Favorites" tabs and we can select what goes in there and such.

I really like what I see and feel when I go into Daz Studio these days. Nothing as far as being a competitor for what I do in Carrara - but absolutely for enhancing what I want done. Like rendering - just drives me crazy in DS, being used to Carrara - even though it's an excellent render engine to be sure. But I keep wanting to take the time to play in AniMate, making custom aniBlocks and such - but always end up just doing it all in Carrara out of habit. But now that I'm learning more on using the CCT (content creation tools) I'm finding that I like hopping inside of DS for a bit of prep work! ;)

But you've been a Carrara user for a while weren't you? Do you go back and forth? I should really venture out of just the Carrara forum from time to time - it's just that Carrara is... well... Carrara!

I'm defiantly a Carrara user, but I end up dropping into DS from time to time to work with genesis...mainly to get clothing to fit or load a pose I can't find the DSF file for in the 8.5 beta. Sometimes I use DS just to see what the content is "supposed" to look like before I start adjusting the shader in Carrara.

DS has a "Transfer Active Morphs" feature that is handy from time to time---I just don't see an option like that in Carrara. I also like the Gex-X plugin that lets me take a gen4 morph and transfer it to Genesis--very handy. I don't use Genesis much, though, because I have to jump back to DS from time to time. I'm on-board with the Genesis concept, though. I'm using the 8.5 beta most of the time, now, and I'm enjoying it but I still hit a snag now and then (two genesis figures in one scene seems to be my main problem) but I can't always reproduce the problem.

But for animation, rendering, and overall use, I prefer Carrara. And when you add a few of Fenric's plug-in's, things just get easier!

    Copy that!
I'm totally on board with getting into Genesis - but still growing into its use! ;)
GenX... I have to look into that. I wonder if Dimension3d will update that for the new Genesis 2 figures.

I'm working on some ideas a lot lately in pursuit of creating a full-circle suite workflow between Carrara, DS and Dogwaffle, Pro versions of each are all I'm familiar with - so that's my target. I can see a really neat set of 3D CG techniques flowing forward very soon - in an attempt to get the rest of the professional CG world to come and have a look at what DAZD is doing over here! Personally I think that we have what it takes to pull of some major sophistication.

    Hey Dart,

    Dimension3D said on June 20,2013:

"Because Genesis 2 is a different mesh than Genesis 1, Genesis Generation X (GenX) can’t be used with Genesis 2 at the moment. However, Genesis 2 includes a clone morph for Genesis 1, so it is possible to extend GenX for Genesis.

I can’t give details or a release date this time, but I’m planning to add morph transfer from Genesis 1 to Genesis 2 and vice versa as well as direct transfer from generation 3 and generation 4 figures to Genesis 2."

I have Generation X and find it very ease to use and a great addition to the "toolbox". I will definitely purchase the Genesis 2 version when it comes out.

For me, the biggest bonus of Genesis is the ability to use clothes from legacy figures (when you have the clones figures)...it has made me pull some of the old gen3 stuff out, even though some of the textures don't always hold up. It's really blown up my runtime (time for a purge, I believe).

BTW--is there a way to re-order your runtimes in Carrara after you've added them? I tend to have runtimes by vendor or theme, so I have quite a few. I'd like them to be in alphabetical order, but I didn't add them that way.

    Salem,

Sadly, there is no way to re-order the runtimes other then to remove them and then re-add them in the order you want. The ability to re-arrange these is a feature that has been requested over and over again.

Unfortunately, I see no mention of this feature being added to the official Carrara 8.5 release notes (on Carrara Cafe).

    poop. >:-(

I'm going to try editing the Preferences file---I see the runtimes listed there, but I'm not sure where the tags start and stop. I'll save a backup, of course!

Have you tried just removing them all and then adding them in the order you like? I think that's how I did mine a while back. I was tired of scrolling to the bottom for "V4" when that's the one I was going after the most. Now that most of that's in my browser as .car files... the folder could drop back down lol
    Funny how that works.

Yeah... those reasons are kind of why I try not to put too much separation in my runtimes list. I've gone vague and just let them grow:
    Environments
    Animals
    Dragons have their own
    V4
    M4
    V3
    M3
Mil (this includes everything male/female pre gen 3)
    Vehicles
    I thing that's it.

    Dart,

I have a few more that that because I keep the vendors separated. It just works for me and helps me give credit where it's due. I did just edit the Prefences.txt file so I could add Dawn into my runtime in alphabetical order--it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. This little snip:

    AFol "H:\\Dawn\\"
    Coll 0
    Fmly dazb
    ShHd 0

Is all I needed to insert between

    AFol "H:\\!runtime_libraries\\Danae\\Runtime\\Libraries\\"
    Coll 1
    Fmly cr2b
    ShHd 0

    and

    AFol "H:\\!runtime_libraries\\DM\\Runtime\\Libraries\\"
    Coll 1
    Fmly cr2b
    ShHd 0

I did save the original, just in case.

That is so very cool to know. I might just reorganize my list now, just to do it so it locks into memory ;)

Does anyone know the break down of the commands in preference file for content.

Coll 0 vs Coll 1 is there a 2, what is ShHd 0

Is there a separator available. any other items that could go in there
