bvh exports only first frame for all frames

edited December 1969 in Art Studio

Hi,

when I export bvh only the first frame is exported.

this means that all the motion data in bvh has the correct number of frames, but all of them only have values for the first frame.

what am I doing wrong?

Peter

We can move the thread - Animation or the forum for the application you are using might be better.

    Hi All,

about which program... Daz Studio 4.6

and this is a good and bad news post.

the "Good News": problem solved.... to export the animation you need to "Bake to studio keys" first then export bvh... and the bvh file will contain the bvh information.

the "Bad News" ... there is NO documentation AT ALL about this and people have been having this problem ever since bvh could be exported... how hard is it to write two lines in the documentation to explain this!?!?!?!?!?!

ok - now how did you bake to studio keys ?
I guess you used aniMate or did you find some other way .

baking is done by the very secret and hidden option found by right clicking on an empty area in the Animate panel,.. there you will see an option for baking.

Yes, DAZ seems to believe that "documentation" is an obsolete concept. Same for Carrara V.8+ ... no docs after several years of telling us "To be provided shortly! "

Animate comes with a PDF and that explains the BAKE to DS timeline very clearly. Nothing in the Animate timeline is IN DAZ Studio until it gets Baked. And nothing on the DS Timeline is added to a new AniBlock unless you follow the Animate tutorial PDF.

I don't use Animate or DS, so this is a little off topic, but do you know if DAZ is planning PDF documentation for Carrara V.8.x? As you may know, the last PDF was for V.7 in 2008, no update was issued in 2010 for V.8:

    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/artzone/pub/software/carrara/start

I understand V.8.5 will have a production release soon. I submitted Request #146001 to the DAZ Help Center on 25July, so far the response is "We are working on updates for this software and should have further documentation at that time." Do you know if that will cover all the features of Carrara V.8+?

As far as documentation for Carrara goes I'm not in the loop on that. I know of the Animate PDF as I read it. Both versions.

    I have an uneasy feeling
    (will have to check later)
"right click bake keyframes to studio timeline" was in fact in the DS3A manual
    is where I learnt it
one did not actually need animate to do it if you had advanced for DS3.
(I had bought 1.5 because I did not at time have DS3A and wanted this feature back in 2009 to get aniblocks into carrara5 via pz2 import)
I bought many third party options to do stuff available in DS3A before they gave me the chance to buy DS3A for a dollar one day!
not wasted btw, all my extras worked for Carrara and Poser too, ie morphing clothes instead of morph transfer etc, I still use them.
with DS4A being made free for everyone the keyframe bake option was the one thing not included and my animate 1.5 not enough for 4, needed2
so I had to buy 2 for so far only this one feature.
I do use it a lot exporting figures to iClone though.
The animate plugin for carrara actually is my most used gofigure item along with all the aniblocks, I can edit them so easily there.

saying all this because often as long time users who have picked up stuff along the way and had to use workarounds a lot, we forget to new users with feature packed DS4pro available at their fingertips free with a lot less needed extras (animate2 being one of very few) must find it all a bit confusing.

I was only addressing using AniBlock's from Animate to be on the DS Timeline, not DS native animations.

OK, thanks. If you hear anything, please let us know. I've seen other comments that imply the V.8+ Carrara documentation will not be comprehensive, i.e. will not cover all the features added since V.7.
