Yeh, I bought it on sale years ago. It was only a couple of dollars. I've never paid full price for anything 3D.
I'm mostly the same. Limited income, lessening involvement.
So, currently I'm working on a project including characters that are not completely copyrighted to myself. Well, I mean, there's no copyright claim on them, but they're a friend's characters that I'm dialing up models of. I'll have to ask for permission to post renders of them first. In the mean time....
I did what I do, created a for now unnamed character. She's actually an adult, I just aged her down to child to see if she'd look like a complete alien. I was trying for a specific appearance that's different from my default aesthetic. It's more obvious in the adult model. As you can see, she's not an alien. Her features work really well on a young character. I couldn't resist the temptation and had to try some expressions on her.
Gosh darn if this isn't the cutest little sprout I've ever come up with.
The adult character is a young woman who courts attention and loves making waves. This series of renders made me think that she's probably loved attention from an early age. The in-universe backstory became that she encountered a team taking pictures of old buildings for preservation purposes, and she did an improvised little modelling session for them. I've seen vintage real world pictures like this, and they make me smile, because they show what people were really like. Many things were strict and regulated compared to our modern communities, but it wasn't like they all were dead inside.
I just love her, you guys.
I asked my friend for permission to post the models I made of our characters, and I got it. Yes, I'm aware that these pictures look a bit like forensic reconstructions, with the natural backgrounds and what not. The names given are not what the characters are actually called in the novel. This story is set in the years just before and after 1950.
"Marjorie," the narrator and main character. She often wears cat-eye glasses, which give her a more fierce appearance. I gotta see if I have the right kind of them in the library. Her appearance is inspired by Brenda Marshall.
"Clara."
"Wilma." I think she needs another material set, because she didn't come out too realistic. Her appearance is heavily based on Norma Shearer, and I was proud of the sculpting work I did on her. Then this is how she renders!
"Tillie."
They are really not that much different from one another, yet the subtle differences set them apart.
The first three were recreated from ArtBreeder pictures my friend made from mashing up different pictures of 1940s actresses, and being AI, it gave all of them the same jaw and overall face shape. The friend I collab with has aphantasia, she's not able to imagine anything visually, which is why she uses AI generated art to help her "see." It's difficult for her to give input and tell me what I should change. These weren't meant to be the final versions, except maybe Marjorie
