An entry in Renderosity's contest for a cutscene for an imaginary game. The game is set in the Age of Sail, and involves getting past the next obstacle, a tall island in a narrow channel, with artillery and sail power guarding the channel. Animated in Carrara Pro using 3D elements from Renderosity and DAZ3D.

Very impressive. I had a board game called Wooden Ships and Iron Men when I was a youngster, brought back good memories.
Thanks. I've played a few video games involving large sailing ships, but never found one that was very convincing. I did enjoy the movie "Master And Commander: The Far Side Of The World". It was adapted from a novel (two actually, I think) by Patrick O'Brien, maybe the best author in the genre (naval combat around 1800). Roger Ebert (4 stars out of 4): " ... an exuberant sea adventure told with uncommon intelligence; we're reminded of well-crafted classics before the soulless age of computerized action ... it re-creates the world of the British navy circa 1805 with such detail and intensity that the sea battles become stages for personality and character." I'm not a fan of a lot of dialogue, but this had some good lines:
Calamy, Midshipman: [while viewing construction of the decoy Surprise - a small raft with a fake mast and lanterns to draw enemy fire at night] Excuse me, sir, but what are they building?
Capt. Jack Aubrey: Your first command.
