Hiding preferences?

Okay. Where do the Preferencs for Studio hide

I shut down earlier this evening and ran errands. The program was acting as usual. When I got back my preferences were evidently gone. All my runtimes were unlisted, my panel settings were missing the style was back to the default.

I went into TimeMachine and restored the program from yesterday's copy, but that didn't fix anything. Where does the preferences file live?

I checked my user's account, and yes, there is a DAZ 3D folder in the Application Support folder in the Library folder. I'll be restoring that from yesterday next, but I don't see a preferences file inside the Studio 4 folder that's in it.

Where do the *Preferences* live so I can restore *that* file?

    (if you're in Windows 7)

... in the Registry. I was _going_ to say the %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4\ContentDirectoryManager.dsx file... but now I find that file is empty (after making changes to my Content Directories), and the relevant keys are to be found in:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\DAZ\Studio4\ ContentDir0.. and PoserDir0...

You may wish to try restoring your user registry settings, as well as the contents of that directory path listed above (it stores things like your pane layout, default tool options etc in various .dsx files -- you can see them changing datestamp when you exit DS successfully).

    I'm on a Mac.

There's a dzContentDirectoryManager.dse file in the Scripts folder of the Program, but that's already been replaced by the one from yesterday. No files of the names you list, and if the Registry is something other than the User Account, I don't know the equivalent.

Here is what is in the User Account Library/Application Support folder. But all of this has already been restored, and it hasn't restored the preferences..

Ah, right, sorry <(^_^). I believe the equivalent of the Registry is the ".plist" for the application, but afaik that's tied up inside the application package itself - and you said you restored that. Hopefully a knowledgeable Mac user will jump in here - I've got no idea, sorry v(^_^)v.</p>

Well it's mostly back in business. I rebuilt my Content Manager lists, and flailed about until I found my layout and style again. Weirdly, at least one of the restorations from backup got my custom Render settings back -- although it completely forgot that things were supposed to be saved in .png rather than .jpg. So I can get back to work, but I'm sure that I will be tripping over missing bits for weeks.

There are a fair number of DAZ-related files in ~/Library/Preferences. The folder is hidden by default in recent versions of OSX, but is still accessible using the Go to Folder... command in Finder's Go menu.

Well, I suspect it's been overwritten by now, unless I can dig it out of TimeMachine. But I'll need its name to do it.

Turns out that re-entering all my Runtimes hasn't got full functionality back. Any attempt to apply a shader insists on going into the runtime/textures folder and finding the relevant reference file *every single time*, and there is only a single scaling dial in the parameters. No x, y, z axis scaling.

I know damned well that there were some 24 hours ago. Andd applying a shader applied the shader.

Also, how do you hide this damned thing? I had it hidden before but I don't see a checkbox to get rid of it, and none of the checkboxes that I do see have anything to do with it.

There aren't any — that looks like the Universal Manipulation tool which you probably defaulted to when all your other preferences were zapped. If you usually use the Node Selection tool like I do, just click on it (looks like a plain mouse pointer arrow) in the toolbar at the top.

    Yup. That fixed it. Thanks.

The program no longer opens a new scene with Genesis already loaded, either. Not that that is a major problem.

That's a preference you can actually do something about, if you want to — Edit>Preferences>Startup and see if "Load File..." has anything selected.

Well, it's no problem to load it myself, when I need it. In fact, I think I'd rather.
