I came across a couple of dynamic dresses which were offered with an "invisible underskirt" to aid with giving volume in the skirt.

Does this mean that if I conform a simple wider shaped skirt to my Vickie 4 and then run a drape on a dynamic skirt, colliding it with the conforming skirt rather than Vivkie, I wil get a nice shape on it?

Yes, as long as the shape of the object your collide with is itself nice - a cone probably wouldn't do the job (and the dynamic item probably needs to start outside the invisible collision object).
