I copy, create new vertex object paste then in first one flip, check my normals copy that one and paste to new room too, translate and weld it sometimes works.

For what purpose while working with Carrara do you need internet?
You just need it for registeringt. (Afaik - it's so long a ago... blush)
    Maybe your firewall is closed.

    duplicate with symmetry + autoweld,
    how does it work?

    Never as expected

I second that!  I would use the weld->custom tolerance and just setting it smaller until it stops "grabbing" verts you don't want welded.

i want the fix that fixes the normals thingee with duplicate with symmetry+autoweld.  dont know how to tell if my symmetry funtionality is broken

or i'm just really really inept at it

Duplicate with Symmetry used to result in incorrect normals (reversed, perhaps?) on the duplicated mesh. That has been fixed in the latest version of Carrara 8.5: "Carrara_8.5.1.19"

I've tried that and the attached image is what I get. As you can see there is no "version number listed" only a "build number", which is useless to me in determining if I have the latest and greatest.

8.5.0.243 is what you have there.

    wuh oh, mine too

    means i need to update

will i need to reinstall mimic?

too tired to reinstall whole thing, cant i d/l a patch update?

None of the plug-ins should need to be reinstalled. None of the content either.

  • Does anyone else have issue with the Mac version? Before the update, when Carrara couldnt find a texture when opening a file, it would tell you which file it was looking for. The PC version still shows the name of the file in question that's "missing". The Mac version does not. I have to pretty much guess based off of the scene file I'm opening. Could it have something to do with the font boost thing? I have it turned on in both versions. The work Mac is using El Capitan (dont know the exact version at the moment). The laptop PC is running Windows 7. I have my Poser runtime mapped in both version of Carrara, but Carrara insists on looking in the Runtime set-up for DAZ Studio only. I really wish we could specify where Carrara goes to look for textures and etc.

It's an El Capitan issue. Happened in a lot of software (most of which got updated) - even Photoshop. I've reported it, but other than getting an acknowledgment . . . the usual nothing. PITA.

  • Wonderful! I guess for the time being I can place the textures I use for a particular scene file into the default Studio runtime. Seriously need to be able to tell Carrrara  where the default place is to look for missing items other than Studio...

i have a stack of like 20 renders in my render room,

is there a quick way to close all the render windows at once?

    tried ctrl x, alt x

i'm clicking the ul dot, then mousing to 'don't save'.

    >.<

    thanks smiley

typing in the find box on instances tab disappears, doesnt seem to do anything?  frown

Wouldn't exiting Carrara do the job? Or Task Manager/End Process for Carrara. Assuming of course you don't want to shut down Carrara.

  • MistaraMistara Posts: 38,675

not exit carrara, just close all the open render windows,

  • wgdjohnwgdjohn Posts: 2,634

Just tried and find no way to do that. :(

    Hi guys,

could you give me the fbx.dll or older version of Carrara (build 8.5.0.243 or so) file available please?
Unfortunately I have no access to earlier version of Carrara.
I was no beta test person.

    Thanx in advance
    regards

I don't use the FBX format, so I'm not sure if this is a real fix or not.

I tried the FBX export option with a simple cube and got the same error message. I examined the Carrara application package contents and found a file named fbx.dll in the Extensions folder with a size of zero KB. In comparison, my copy of Carrara 8.5.0.243 had a file named FBX.dll (in upper case) with a size of 4.9 MB.

I copied the FBX.dll file from Carrara 8.5.0.243 to Carrara 8.5.1.19 (renaming the zero KB one first, just in case I needed to revert back to the original), restarted Carrara and tried to export a cube in FBX format again. This time it appeared to work.

This may or may not be a fix. Just passing along my findings.

Hi! Sorry for not replying earlier. I can confirm that putting the fbx.dll file from the old version into the relevant folder of the new version of Carrara works as you said.

Thanks for the suggestion & cheers! :)

I can't say that I understand why this issue has not been remedied. It has been known of since last July.

It literally only requires replacing the empty fbx.dll file with the real fbx.dll file. (I think this is a Mac version issue. I've not seen any Windows users mention it.)

It looks like it was just a mistake in the 8.5.1.19 Mac release. It appears to be the only .dll file in the Mac version, and I believe that it was simply omitted in the last release. The only reason an empty 0 byte fbx.dll exists is that Carrara seems to create it if the real one doesn't exist.

Just checked... 8.5.1  FBX.dll show 4.80mb on my windows 7 computer.

It doesn't simply because I've never used it before.

Did you get the file? I hit the same problem and just got the response.

This is a known issue, and I am linking this to that bug report. I will let you know if/when I hear back from the dev team.
Carrara development is still underway. However, I cannot speak to any dates for the next version.

So looks like no Mac FBX export for me sad

I show that my version is 8.5.1 Pro Build 19. I assume that this is the latest... true? When is Build 20 due? Will it have Genesis 3 support?
