Hello!

I did a clean install of DAZ 4.6 and the Genesis2 Starter Essentials. Everything ok so far, but the only thing I am missing is the UberAreaLight. I cannot find it anywhere. I always thought it is included in DAZ Studio. Did I miss a change here?

    Its in The Genesis Starter Essentials not the Genesis 2 (G2F) set. You should have both in your account.

    Oh, ok, I see. I did not download the Genesis Starter Essentials because I do not use Genesis in the moment. But as you say, I have to download this huge (400 MB) file, just to get the UberAreaLight. What a waste of ressources :-)
    I think DAZ should either include it into the DAZ Studio installer or make it available as a seperate download - like the Subsurface Shader, which is available seperately in the product list and also part of hte Gen2 Starter Essentials.

    The Genesis Starter Essentials is the basic content for DS4+. Breaking it into different parts like the NEWER content package would cause more trouble than it's worth and increase the total size of content transferred in the long run if downloaded as parts.

    In this modern day and age, 400Mb isn't too bad, especially when you're working with 3D. Included in the Genesis Starter pack is also the UberEnvironment light and Genesis figure. There are distinct benefits to having Genesis installed on your machine when you're working with Genesis 2 as well. Most notably being able to apply Victoria 4 materials to Genesis and then saving them as a DUF format to reuse with Genesis 2. The only other method is to manually apply each and every setting and texture map to the 'legacy surfaces' in Genesis 2.

    You can also apply clothing to Genesis from K4 and M4 using autoconvert and then convert it again to Genesis 2. There is currently no way to directly convert clothing for these figures to Genesis 2 Female. You can also do this for V4 if you don't already own the Victoria 4 shape for Genesis 2. The clone figure for Genesis 2 is superior to the Genesis classic, so if you do own it then it's always best to use it rather than do a double conversion.

    So, in the long run it might actually prove beneficial to have both.

    It's the name that's confusing, and you're far from the first to be caught out by this. What it actually is, is just Starter Essentials*. There's a lot more in that installer than just Genesis and a few light sets, and they've been in a separate installer since D|S4.5. If you don't install the Starter Essentials, well, you've just found out why they're essential.

    * (which also includes Genesis)
