I'd started a brief thread for a similar problem, in which I'd determined that the texture map being used for the eye was being multiplied by zero, causing it to turn black. Replacing the eye texture would fix that, as would changing the multipliers to white on the eye shaders. All of them. (sigh)

I don't suppose you can give us a screenshot of your render settings? On the render page?
