I'm not a pro nothing. But i'm making little games . Nothing superfancy.

I want to populate my game with lots of characters. And i want to use clothes for characters which i already have.

like Jersey Dress 2 for V4. I was trying to make jersey dress into a CLOTH in Unity and i get a spinning ball(MAC) and it seems it can't handle it. I'm guessin git's cause JersyDRESS2 is very high poly.

anys so yeah, i want to use DAZ characters and high quality clothing like jersy dress 2 in the games,
will Decimator be a good thing for me?

And does it work on mac?

Decimator should work on Mac, though I haven't bought it myself. As Daz3D has a 30 days money back policy it should be not as painful to try if it suits your needs. The tool is probably still fairly essential unless you have other means of reducing the polygon count (some 3D modelers allow that) or explicitly buy low polygon objects - or model them on your own.

Not sure if you have thought of this one, but one thing to consider is the whole licensing if you want to distribute your game(s) (be it free or commercial), as Daz3D sold figures (which includes V4) are not allowed to be used as 3D models in distributed games with the included license. At Daz3D there are additional licenses you can buy, which are geared towards Daz3D original figures and also RAWart figures, but keep in mind these are rather expensive and as far as I read it on a per game basis.

Indie game developer licenses at Daz store are the following (there are also "Commercial" game developer linceses for larger projects):
    http://www.daz3d.com/rawart-indie-game-developer-license
    http://www.daz3d.com/indie-game-developer-license

That being said, I am not sure what the license of the "Jersey Dress 2" itself entails, but there should be a license file to go with it. If in doubt license wise it is best to ask the specific vendors/marketplaces.

Thanks. I'm just a hobbiest making games mainly for myself. i dont seell them plus i'm not even good at making games. i'm just trying to make stuff cause it's fun to make stuff.

So no need to worry about licensing.

thanks for the info about Decimator

Sorry to be a pain, but just in case due to the "mainly" ... if the games you make are exclusively for your own purpose, then you don't need any additional license. If you hand them over to another person to e.g. play them then, yes, you have to take care of licensing.

hi Guys. I got Decimator and it's great. Except i hven't been able to do anhthing because when i Press the PREPARE to Decimate... it starts slowly filling up the bar but then crashes.

    I have a file with 1 V4 with a dress and hair.

I've only been able to decimate a dress by itself in a daz file.

But like i said , when i have V4 and clothes, it crashes.

What can i do about that?

I'm on mac DS 4.6 Pro 4.6.018 32 bit for mac

    Mac Pro 2.66 GHz
    , 10 GB Ram

It's frustrating that nothing works and everything crashes.
For example currently in my projects this makes me frustrated
=The DAZ 4.6 Pro Preview Render doesn't work. it was working in the beggining but now when i try to render to images or movie...it gets stuck rendereing like full renders, when i indicated i want Preview renders and that should be really fast
    =Unity also crashes many times
=and now the thing i just BOUGHT for 100 dollars(Decimator) crashes in the first try and keepcrashring with a basic decimating i want to do. hehehe
    man this is frustrating

Is there a particular reason that you are using the 32 bit version of DS?

It doesn't matter if you are on a Mac or a PC, using the 32 bit version means that there is a maximum of 4GB of RAM available to the program, no matter how much you have.

If your OS is 64 bit, then make sure to download the 64 bit version, it will give much fewer problems on CPU intensive operations.

Oh JimmyC, thanks for the info.
Well is my OS 64 bit? I don't even know. I have Maco X 10.6.8

    I'll try the 64 bit!!!

Also should i try the 64 version of DECIMATE? Cause the one i installed was the 32 bit

According to what I read on the web, it will depend on your processor whether it runs 32 bit or 64 bit. This link may help with that:
    http://osxdaily.com/2009/09/07/how-to-tell-if-youre-running-the-32-bit-or-64-bit-kernel-in-mac-os-x-snow-leopard/

If you are able to use the 64 bit version of DS, then you would NEED to use the 64 bit version of Decimate as well.

If your Mac can only run 32 bit, then there is no real point in having 10 GB of RAM I'm afraid. You should check to see what the processor is, 32 or 64 bit.

Thakns for the info. I installed the 64 version of DAZ and also of Decimate and they work :)
Wow, i didn't even know that. I'm not a really smart computer person.

    waitt.......

I've just tested it and it worked to start up and load character but then weird things start happening like my screen flashes and then it froze and i couldn't get out of the freeze. So i guess i dont have a good comptuer for 64 bit

I noticed in My Mac pro About this mac in the SOFTWARE part it says
64 BIT KERNEL and EXTENSIONS : NO

But then i read that Macos 10.6 and up can swtich betwenn 64 bit and 32 bit.

Could i switch to 64 when i want to use DAZ 64 bit?

Ok I restarted in the 64 bit kernel at startup by holding the 64 keys.

Now DAZ 64 bit works , it's not crashing badly. except it still crashes when i use Decimator. MMmmm

I wonder if it's a bug or something. or maybe i have to update something in my computer or graphics

Guys, Decimator is crashing too much.

Seems when i have like V4, hair, and a high quality dress It crashes.

But when i have a file with only the high quality d ress. It doesn't crash and i can use decimator perfectly.

    What's going on?

It just crashes alot and i'm not running other apps.

    I'm on a mac. DS Pro 4.6 64bit. 10GB RAM
Using v4 type DAZ models with morphs and stuff.

And many of my characters use Jersey Dress 2, conformed to the figure (morph of V4) using the Edit menu
    *Edit/Figure/Transfer Active MOrphs
*Edit/Figure/Geometry/Add Smoothing Modifier and i set it to Collision Iterations 15, and Smoothing 5
