they were a limited time freebie.

Sorry, but do you mean the jellyfish or just the biolight presets?

Can you give an example of using the Area Light to make an object glow and seem to emit light? Is there a tutorial out there on it?

I don't recall a tutorial, but for sure Orbis Magicae at RDNA are supposed to do the job for you. I would assume placing a light sphere inside a semi-transparent box made of primitives could also work, but I never checked it.

    the bio lights.

Thank you, so I didn't miss anything, uff!

Area Light acts just like any other surface material shader when you apply it. Select the object and its surface, then double click the Area Light icon in the content library. Then, when you render, that surface will act like a light source in the scene.

Just found a tutorial thread here:

    I hope that helps!

I've used the UltrueViolet (yes, that's how it's spelled) shaders before for glow.

And this set is on sale right now! (I just bought it. :) )

For a hazy glow you'll need a caustic camera.

Would there be interest in a set of "elemental" glow shaders with an accompanying caustic camera?

Did the caustic camera with elemental glow shaders ever happen?

  • What I am waiting for is for something that can mimic the bloom effect in studio.

Iray has a bloom filter built in.
