SSS by Age of Armour zombiefies my characters

I've decided to give SSS a try and applied it to two characters with astonishing results. While the elite figure V4 skin works fine (aside from the seams visible) the modified philip M5 looks like a zombie. The same happens with the unmodified Spartacos Genesis texture. Any idea what is happening here? I have quite a lot of custom textures and if they all show this distortions then SSS is no use to me.

This is probably the old issue with Displacement settings.

From the Subsurface Shader User Guide:

    Displacement

The settings work in the same way as the default DAZ Studio shader with the exception that, when no
displacement map is used, the Maximum Displacement and Minimum Displacement settings should be set to 0.

It must have something to do with the displacement - fiddling with the settings shows that the effect can be reduced, but I can't get it to go away completely. The SAV skin has displacement maps so it's not a question of being set on 0. Something else must cause the problem.

I tend to use displace and bump settings of -1 and 1 with very low percentages - turns out it's not only the displacement but the bump as well, that caused the distortion. multiplying the percentage by 100 and dividing the setting by 100 has taken care of the problem.

    Thanks for the hint.
