Which software for me?

Bonjour :)

I want to integrate 3D characters into the real world in my videos

I plan to do the real world part with after effects which I'm learning these days

For the 3D I was originally planning to use Cinema 4D since it's integrated into After effects via the cineware Plugin

But maybe Poser and DS are better for me since it seem to focus on 3D characters only, and have a large collection of animated characters.
Are they easier to learn and animate 3d characters than c4d? which one in particular (money isn't a problem) and which have the most extensive collection of characters?
Any integration with after effects or C4D?

thanks a lot for taking the time to read my post, and thank you so much if you can actually help me ^^

Poser or DAZ Studio are fine. If you are really interested in animating the figures you may want to look at Carrara. We just launched Carrara 8.5 and a good chunk of the new features focused on updating the animation tools in Carrara. You can also use Genesis in Carrara, as well as Michael 4 and Victoria 4 and their 4th generation friends.

If you are serious about getting into animation then Carrara 8.5 will probably be for you. If you want to test the waters I recommend trying DAZ Studio since it is free. There isn't a free version of poser, but I may come off as biased since ya know.. I work for DAZ 3D. Hopefully someone else can chime in and offer an opinion.

...until the end of the month Poser9, is being offered at an exceptionally low price. However, beware, the "non pro" versions of Poser are only 32 bit so not only do they render more slowly, but also have to operate under stricter memory restraints (2 GB native 3GB with system tweaks). Poser Pro 2014(the current version) has 64 bit support and a number of new features including Soft Body Physics and the "Fitting Room" that allows for interactive fitting of conforming clothing and morph transfer.

The one advantage of any version of Poser is it has the Cloth Room which allows for creating dynamic cloth simulations which may or may not be important to your work.

Daz Studio 4.6Pro comes in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions (and as mentioned above is free) but it's cloth dynamics support is far more limited compared to Poser in that it only works with specific premade clothing content.

For the money, Carrara 8.5 Pro is probably the best option (again as mentioned above) and no where near the price of Cinema4D. One big advantage besides its animation and vertex modelling capability is it's terrain and environment generation and handling. Both Daz Studio and Poser/Poser Pro are very limited in the latter respect and depend on ready made scenery content. Carrara also has Particle and "Bullet" (rigid and soft body) physics as well as an excellent rendering engine that uses all processor cores/threads. Finally 8.5 Pro also includes the full Victoria5 and Michael5 pro bundles so you have 3D Genesis based characters ready to go.

Odd question regarding C8.5. Does it include Genesis as part of it's content? Or do you have to have DS loaded?

    You do not need DS.

    C8.5 now comes with V5/M5.

V5 and M5 are morph sets for Genesis. You still need the Genesis Starter Essentials. Are they part of the C8.5 content?

From the sound of this thread, http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/28681/ I'm thinking the Genesis Starter Essentials may not be a part of C8.5, but you'd also need to add DS to your product library to gain access to them. You shouldn't have to install DS as well, just the Starter Essentials package since they split Genesis away from the main DS program install.

I have pokemon 3D models in .obj, and want to animate them, and then put them in my footage (real world video)
Since the models weren't created specifically for Daz or Poser (they are extracted from video games) will it be easier to animate them in Daz, Carrera, poser than in Cinema 4D ?
I like the connection between C4D and After Effects CC so would prefer to stick with it, but if you tell me that it's a pita to animate characters model with C4D compare to DAZ, cararra or poser... then bye bye C4D.
So please do tell me :)

Carrara, PoserPro and DAZ Studio all include rigging tools. The cheaper versions of Poser (Poser 9 and 10) don't include the weight-mapped rigging tools.

Only the Pro versions of Poser have WM rigging but all versions of Poser currently available do have the set up room which will allow to rig an obj for animation.

Unless I am mistaken, they are. Here is the list of the content included with Carrara 8.5:
    http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/carrara/8_5/userguide/getting_started/tutorials/setup_guide/start

If you don't have the Genesis Starter Essentials you can just add DAZ Studio to your account and the Starter Essentials will show up in your product library. You don't even need to download DAZ Studio.

I'd say the choice depends on what you know or are able to do already with C4d and after effect and the way you want to work (and the strenght of your motivation of course)

There is no direct pipeline from DS or carrara to C4d as far as I know. You can try to export FBX or Collada to C4D and you'll get a rigged figure (more or less easily I don't know) but you will certainly lose some functions in the process. Once there in C4D you may have to tweak the rigging of each figure/cloth and materials/shaders then it will be useable. I won't say it will be an easy process but you will be also able to keep your C4D to after effect pipeline. Get DS as it is free and try to do it

If using non DS or poser figure I'd choose to rig in C4D. From what I've read it's a very good application, easier to learn than other Pro Apps (3dsmax, maya...) and I think it's features are above DS or Poser. I don't know against Carrara. It could be alike but you won't have the direct link to after effect so advantage to C4D there

If you want to use the 3d models bought for DS or Poser and transfer them into C4D You may consider Poser which has a plugin to transport scene to other 3D apps http://poser.smithmicro.com/poserfusion2014.html. Don't know if it works well but something exist and from the description it seems to do the job. You should go to Poser Forums to ask if it's worth or if there are some problems that may arise for what you want to do.

You may also choose to use DS/Carrara or Poser to animate and render an animation and combine afterwards in after effect. Posing and animating characters in these applications may be easier with Poser/DS Characters. The difficulty will be to setup your scene correctly to mach the real footage

PS : Ta video n'est pas trop mal déjà. Si c'est toi qui l'a faite je suppose que tu sais déjà un peu dans quoi tu mets les pieds

Thanks everyone for your answers, it's more clear to me now.

    Bye
