Texture Tutorial

I'm jumping into the world of Texturing as my next step to fully learn Studio as I promised myself this year...

To make it an easier first step, I was going to make some textures for some clothing that I had bought. I've basically figured out how to make the JPGs with textures, colors, etc onto the template. So I think I can get that far now.

But now I'm thinking how to get it into the runtime. How to save the files? I know I can put on the piece of clothing and simply change the diffuse map and change the colors etc. But I want to set it up as if I purchased it. You know with the little picture and so on and all I do is click on which one I want and it changes it?

I am going through a tutorial I bought on texturing at rendo. I think it's geared more toward the poser way. It uses MatWriter-Panel or something and Poser. No problem. I'm still going to finish the tutorial. I have Poser but never use it. Tonight I loaded V4, added a top, went to save and it promptly bombed on me without me doing anything lol. I didn't even get to pose. :(

So anyway I'm looking to see how it should be set up in Studio. I'm trying to search the forum and Google but I'm just not typing in the right words yet.

As always, thanks for your time and effort!

Place ALL the Image files in the Runtime>Textures>Your Name or Product Name Here folder.
In DS load the Item that the textures are made for and use the Surfaces Tab to add them to the item from the texture folder.
Now Use Save As>Materials Preset give it a Name and SAVE to a folder in the DS side, above the Runtime not in it, as you can only save DAZ Studio mat files in DS. It helps if you make the folder in the right place First.
The Save As will make a very BLAH image png from your Viewport in that folder. I then do this Add good lighting and set up a render with the render size of 100x100 that's small so fill it up best you can and RENDER that. Now to Name that Render the SAME name as the one made by DS when you saved the Mat file. Delete the BAD one and put your good one there. TADA. You ready to use it. Now do the next one.

AS Noted this only makes DS versions and only for the Version your using. It also will not show up as Smart content until you hand make the Metadata file/files.

"And only for the Version your using". Hmmmmm....leads to more questions lol. But at any rate, I will work on this when I get home from work tonight. I'm assuming the tutorial I'm working on will give me the Poser versions so when all is said and done going by this too I should have both versions. I was thinking if I can work all of this out maybe doing some stuff for freebies and who knows maybe for sale eventually if I can get good enough. right now I just want to see how it all works and get the entire process down.

    Thanks for your time!
