DAZ 3D is pleased to announce the next public version of the DAZ Studio Pro BETA - version 4.6.1.14!

What is a BETA?

Despite our best efforts, DAZ 3D cannot possibly test the software under all possible conditions. So, we are providing this version of the application to the general public in order to uncover problems that were not discovered during internal/private testing. We expect that there will still be problems and we hope that when users encounter any problems, they will report them to the Bug Tracker so that they can be validated, prioritized and fixed.

As with any software classified as being in the BETA phase of development, you should expect to encounter bugs. Any bugs you do encounter while using BETA software can vary in terms of severity, from minor features that do not work correctly to problems that cause your computer to crash. Before choosing to use BETA software for production purposes, you should decide whether the benefit of new features and bug fixes provided by the BETA version outweighs the risk of instability you may encounter.

What is a Release Candidate?

A Release Candidate is a BETA version that has the potential to replace the General Release if no significant new bugs emerge.

What is new in this version? Do I need to update my copy?

The 4.6.1.14 version resolves several issues and implements many improvements since the 4.6.0.18 General Release. More detail on specific fixes/changes/improvements can be found in the Change Log, which can be viewed online within the Documentation Center portion of our site. All new downloads of the DAZ Studio Pro BETA product (SKU: 12000) will be of this version.

Public BETA 2 - Release Candidate 1 (4.6.1.14) highlights are:
1) Implemented the concept of a Rigid Follow Node; an Instance derived node whose purpose is to maintain a proportional relationship with specified polygons of a target mesh. Tools for creating a node and establishing reference geometry can be found in the context menu of the Polygon Group Editor viewport tool.
2) Fixed UV interpolation in the viewport to match/respect the Edge Interpolation of the object; what you see in the viewport now more closely matches what will be rendered.
3) The Property Editor pane rewrite is now considered "code complete", meaning the functionality it provided has been replaced (by the Property Hierarchy pane and an Edit Mode on the Parameters pane), and the Property Editor plugin has been removed from the distribution footprint.
4) Added Advanced Filtering support in the filter field of the Parameters, Shaping, Posing, Lights, Cameras and Surfaces panes; ala Install Manager Advanced Filtering - currently limited to Syntax Selector, Syntax Modifier and Query Pattern elements of an expression - Scope is currently limited to property labels.
5) Re-factored the Scene Info pane to better reflect the actual geometry composition of the scene.
6) Fixed FBX import of a node hierarchy, each with geometry; would sometimes be missing geometry.
7) Updated OpenSubdiv support to 2.0.1
8) Updated the 3Delight render engine to 10.0.170; see 3Delight Change Log for more details.
9) Updated selection highlighting to indicate the node that is causing the selection. Viewport selection now uses the Accent Color of a given UI Style as the highlight color and the Link Color of a given UI Style as the alternate highlight color. Nodes that promote selection now highlight using the alternate highlight color.
10) Added a User Interface Preference for enabling/disabling Per Pixel Lighting; added “Viewport 2.0” support to the Smooth Shaded DrawStyle; moved preliminary enabling/disabling of “Viewport 2.0” functionality from individual DrawStyles to a common option used by all applicable DrawStyles; Disabled bump and normal support in “viewport 2.0” due to speed concerns, re-enable once VBO support is added.
11) Numerous improvements to content creation tools; see the change log for details.

Public BETA 1 (4.6.0.81) highlights are:
1) Added support for allowing a BETA build to co-exist with the General Release of the same major version; i.e. 4.6.0.18 and 4.6.0.81 installed at the same time; see below.
2) Updated the 3Delight render engine to 10.0.144; see 3Delight Change Log for more details.
3) Updated OpenSubdiv support to 1.2.1
4) Significant improvements to viewport display; currently implemented as the "Texture Shaded 2.0" DrawStyle. This DrawStyle implements per-pixel lighting, rather than the vertex lighting used in earlier versions, with improved specular, normal maps, bump maps, reflections and gamma correction. Viewport display of the default distant, spot and point lights now match 3Delight results much more closely. These improvements are hardware dependent.
5) Added support for "Projection Morphs"; used to override the shape of a specific morph with an alternate shape for the purpose of auto-generated morph projections.
6) Added support for arbitrary node selection helpers; parented props can now be set [within Joint Editor Tool Settings] to promote viewport selection to their parent node; allows for "handles" to be made from any object in the scene, including instances.
7) Added an "Open Recent" submenu to the File menu; lists recently opened/saved scene files. The menus need to be rebuilt for this option to appear; applying a default layout, or importing the Default Advanced menus will cause menus to be rebuilt. A script to update/merge menus is being worked on for a future build.
8) Added a "Display Separate Items" action to the Parameters, Posing and Shaping pane option menus. These actions toggle whether the display of property groups in the pane are separated according to the items in the scene or consolidated into a single hierarchy.
9) Added a "Display Followers" action to the Parameters, Posing and Shaping pane option menus. These actions provide the ability to see the properties of followers (i.e. clothing, hair, etc) in the Parameters, Posing and Shaping panes when the host figure is selected.
10) Fixes/workarounds to various GoZ plugin issues; saving of morph assets; spaces and/or special characters in scene item labels causing creation of subtools to halt.
11) Added an alternate image option for the splash/about screen

Has the Genesis Starter Essentials, or the Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials, content packages been updated too?

No, the Genesis Starter Essentials and Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials content that is provided with the product has NOT been updated beyond what is currently available with the General Release.

How do I get the latest version?

If you have previously added the DAZ Studio Pro BETA product to your account, launch Install Manager, log into your account and type "DAZ Studio 4.6 Public Beta" into the filter field to filter out anything else. Then simply download and install as you would normally.

Optionally, you can locate, download and install the BETA from the Product Library [once you are logged into your account] by entering "DAZ Studio Pro BETA" into the text field near the top left of the page and clicking the "Filter" button, or by clicking here. Then, simply click the "download & install" button.

If this is your first time downloading DAZ Studio Pro BETA, simply follow this link, click the "Add to Cart" button on the page and then follow the checkout process.

*Note: This BETA version is not available as a standalone installer. It must be downloaded and installed using Install Manager. This does not impact the General Release, which will be made available through Install Manager as well as a standalone installer.

Can I have the General Release and the BETA installed at the same time?

Yes! You can now have both the General Release and a Public Beta (as well as a Private Beta, for those involved in that endeavor), of the same major version, installed at the same time. Please be aware that the settings for each of the builds are now stored independent of each other. This includes mapped content directories, layout, style and style colors, among many others.

What about the plugins I have?

The DAZ Studio 4.5 SDK has not changed in any way that is binary incompatible, which means that any plugins created for a previous version of DAZ Studio 4.5.x should continue to load and function. That said, as with any new release, there is always the possibility that a plugin has had bugs fixed or features added, so the latest versions should be downloaded and installed if they are provided.

Plugins that are currently built/produced by DAZ 3D will provide a separate package specifically intended for the BETA. 3rd party plugins that DAZ 3D creates install packages for will be updated to allow simultaneous installation into the General Release and the BETA builds. These packages will display as "Product Updates" within Install Manager once they have been updated.

Is there any documentation?

Yes, some documentation is located here.

Hmm, well, CMS connection appears to be instable here on my Mac in this beta after loading a larger scene. Filed a zendesk ticket for this (Request #150678).

I like the new user interface. It is better readeable.
    But it doesn't work.
    An example:
I will change a parameter, e.g. Glutes Size (image 1).
So I click an this parameter.
After this the display is immediately jumping to image 2.
Now I must go back to Hip parameters and get image 3.
Now I can change the glutes size.
With this you can not work!!!!!!!

    I have Windows 8 with 64 bit.

I'm not seeing that - could you go through the exact tsteps you follow, from loading the figure, when this happens.

Thank you for the fast reply.

I made a fast test to verify. Before I load a old Scene.

    Simply I have made this

    1. new scene
    2. load V6.
    3. load Genesis2FemaleGenitalia (not set up the surface)
    4. select shaping:Hip:Hip size

    Thats all!

...just went to the Product Library and the latest release candidate still shows as being 4.6.0.18.

After my experiences with 3.x Advanced, never bother with beta releases anymore. Ended up spending more time dealing with bugs, crashes, and filing bug reports than getting any meaningful work done.

Yes, if (and only if) I load the genitals I get that. Please make a bug report.

When selecting multiple nodes inside the viewport, they are selected. However, only one of them is selected and highlighted inside the parameters tab. I find this to be very annoying because that way I have to always select all the selected nodes again if I want to move them simultaneously.

In the old revision it did not show each of the selected nodes seperately inside the parameters tab I believe, thus it was by default the multiple selection that was affected. Is there some advantage to the new way that I havent yet noticed? Or why the change here?

It would be great if you could have it select all the nodes by default, that are also selected inside the viewport. Thanks!

It also appears that you now have completely broken the I would call it "mouse gestures" functionality. Where when you click on a green dot in the powerpose tab and drag, you can pose the selected node. It is now completely jerking around into kind of a max rotation position the second you start dragging the mouse, which makes this impossible to use.

This would perhaps be the perfect time to fix it and improve the Powerpose pane :

Click the green dot with left mouse button and drag either up-down, or left-right >> Bend Rotation
Click the green dot with right mouse button and drag either up-down, or left-right >> Twist Rotation
Click the green dot with middlemouse button and drag either up-down, or left-right >> Side-Side Rotation

That way you can use it as a precision posing tool and it would probably make quite a few people happy. Including me of course :) Because even before bugging it, you could not properly use this for precise movements because of the fact that you always manipulated two axis rotations at a time instead of one, which made this a very sluggish tool. But hopefully you can find the time to implement my suggested changes to it, and this functionality might become a very nice workflow addition.

A Release Candidate and a General Release are not the same thing...

    What is a Release Candidate?

A Release Candidate is a BETA version that has the potential to replace the General Release if no significant new bugs emerge.

This is an early peek at the upcoming General Release build so that we can get feedback on it and verify that there are no last minute critical bugs (our discretion) that would cause us to delay the release to the general public. Our private testing team has already beat up on the build and put it through its paces. Releasing a Public Beta allows us to expand the pool of machines, configurations and users so that we can get a broader measure of the build's fitness for the general public.

The current General Release build is 4.6.0.18. This, however, is a Beta build (4.6.1.14), which has now reached the Release Candidate stage and will replace the General Release within the next few weeks if no significant new bugs emerge.

You can have the same behavior by unchecking the "Display Separate Items" option in the Option Menu of the Parameters, Shaping and Posing panes.

This would perhaps be the perfect time to fix it and improve the Powerpose pane

The Release Candidate stage is not the time to be making changes that have the potential to introduce instability. There will be no more features added to this build before it transitions to General Release. The focus at this point is stability. Please submit any bugs through the Zendesk ticketing system. Please also submit any feature requests through the Zendesk ticketing system and we will consider them for a future build. Understand that this is not a promise that a feature will or will not be implemented, only that we will consider them (and weigh them against all of the other requests we receive, along with our own) once we've reached General Release with this development cycle.

Now I can find Property hieralchy pane,in 4,6,14. which could not be found in 4,6,0,84 before (some admin said about it) as for me.

It actually remove loading time problem. Now I have no prolbem to open property hieralchy pane, without hide or remove many parameters .

but how Can I access other menu which had been in porperty editor before?

eg, property cloner, , property mover.

    and make empty property.

now I can not acess these action menu. I know there is ERC freeze still,
so that, if I want to make new property , must I need to use ERC freeze first, in current beta?

As for me, I usually first make new empty property, then set each controller or sub-component manually.
it make me easy what I plan and what type I need to set ERC.

And the new property hieralchy pane order each property by node gorup only.
all property are not grouped Actor or Hidden etc.

it make more difficult to move each property and set subcomponent or controller.
    .
to move and change group, I can use new edit mode of parameter tab
but the property in edit mode, and new Property Hieralcy pane is not one set.
it work individually. eg I can not drug property from parameter pane to new Property Hieralchy pane.
but before, in property editor, I can druf from left pane to right pane.
it was more easy to set sub component.
    =======================

Ah,, OK, I found all aciton,, in Parameter edit mode.

First, select category , or each parameter, then r-click , call each action.
(create property, Property cloner,Property mover, ,, there are all actions which I serched )

...so I guess I'm staying with 4.6.0.18 until there is a proper general release. OK, that answers my question.

Ok, I feel like an idiot right now. If it was there in DS4+, I've had it off for so long and don't remember how to get rid of it. I'm re-setting up my UI for the beta, and can't figure out how to get rid of that select a lesson thing in the bottom right. Any hints? lol

That option doesn't exist in this version- at least not in that location. It's not there in the current release of 4.6, either. I really have no idea how I managed to get rid of that thing before.

I wish to express my continued disgust at these betas only being made available through the DIM (along with my even longer continued disgust at the DIM still requiring use of the Public directory).

Frankly, given the number of times there have been bugs in the standalone installers in DS's history, I would have thought that a Release Candidate is something for which you should really want the standalone installer beta tested too.

The reason that the beta version is only available through the DIM is because that way DAZ 3D can insure that the beta version will not overide your already installed version.

Still no way to get this without install manager? I don't want to have to install something just to uninstall it later. I would actually prefer it to override my current version as it is really buggy.

This is the first app I installed with DIM (I generally prefer to install the programs/plugins/etc the old fashioned way and leave DIM for content), and I was surprised to see how smooth it went. It even followed my non-standard install location settings without choking.

It did auto-add my primary Daz library, too (which is also in a custom location), but I'm not sure how it figured that one out as I have many custom libraries added in both DIM and the general release version.

You can override your current version by opening the downloaded zip file and uncompress the appropriate content over your stable but still, it creates a custom Public build directory for all preferences and parameters and you have to copy the ones from your stable. Do it with DIM. If DAZ doesn't change the directories name, you'll have the beta and stable along and future beta will always override your current beta . That is not a bad idea to have both at the same time as there always have a risk of something not working correctely on the beta. They may not have everything correct for now but if you let them know what is not working they'll make it better

You mean DAZ made it right (just kidding)? I suppose they duplicated registry entries and path from dzinstall.ini. I manually unzipped the content on a computer not having internet, so couldn't chek with DIM if everything goes as it should.
There are some good features in this build, but didn't test a lot of thing yet. It may be me but it seems there are nice new icons. I'm not sure to like the way the Hierarchy editor looks but it seems to load quicker though I tested on a base figure (Dawn). I was happy to see there was something new in the SSS in 3delight but after a little test, didn't see any advantage yet. What I didn't see yet is DS crashing but I'm just beginning to play with this beta
