December 2018 New User 3D Art Challenge - Free Render Month: Wrap it up!

  • I'm pretty new to getting up to speed with DAZ Studio, so maybe I'll post one as well. :)

I just made this the other day when I saw that a plug-in I was considering buying came bundled with a big tutorial/manual. That was the tipping point, because as the parody lyrics go, "I Like. Big. Books. and I cannot lie!"

The wrist looks weird to me... also, I did minor color and saturation adjustments in Photoshop as I would with a photo.

Nice image DigitalSteam. Not sure what is going on with the wrist.

    @ sueya

Huge improvement from yuor first version!  The longer I play with DAZ the more I realize it's the details that sell the image not the content, and your image is a great example of that!  Great job!

Well, guess I'm a few minutes too late with my final render :(
(still made it before 2019 MST though) :p

I second @Fisherman_B, @sueya deserves some major props this month

My last render try was a totally desaster. My lightsetting was overdone and blowed out all details in the water, so I have not the chance for another entry.sad

This month, there were so many good submissions from you all that I had no chance with my picture anyway. blush

Nevertheless, a happy new year to you all with lots of great ideas and pictures in the coming months,

And a big thanks's from me to our fine moderators and all the people from the community, who give their help and insight to us, so that we can get better.heart

I managed to find a script on @mcasual 's site https://sites.google.com/site/mcasualsdazscripts7/home called Mjccasualdroptotop which allows you to place one figure/object on top of another and used it to drop the girls, tree and presents on to the top floor of the building. I also moved the older girl to the right slightly and moved the younger girl back so that they look more like they are hanging decorations on the tree. When I used the spotlight with xrotate set to -65 I found that the shadows still looked a bit confusing so I changed the angle to -35. I hope that the use of the script doesn't count as cheating!

This is definately my final image.

Sorry I've been busy moving and not followed this thread all,  but I have a trick I use when checking that things are on the floor or not.,

I create a new camera, aim it at the person, then look from, the bottom of the plane and slowly move the person / object down until I see it "come through" the floor, as the plane is usually indefinite thin, just seeing the shoe / foot /present barely and you know its on the ground.

I agree with @DigitalSteam, when you are creating an end product, the end justifies the means. (I mean, there are some caveats with IP and hopefully you don't have to murder things to make a render... but in general)

Absolutely - Cheat honestly. Or ethically, as it were. :)  "Cheat" by using a tool that gets you to the desired result easier, more quickly, or more reliably? Yes. "Cheat" by claiming someone else's work as your own? Nope, nope, nope, nope, and nope. ;)

The figures are still floating and not standing on the floor

Did this quickly,  I was playing with some wolves.    only the one on the left is actually on the floor,   the others are all floating

    It's a squadron of AirWolves! :)

Yeah,  but it did show how shadows look for flying figures.

It did, and very well. I was admiring, not complaining. :)

  • Congrates to the winners, and a happy new year to all.

(P.S. Virtualreality42, I was wondering what weapon your girl is packing in your render.)

  • Congratulations to the showcased, you all did a great job!

    Wow! Thank you so much!
I learned a lot this month, new ways to do things, and things I shouldn't try to do. (yet anyway)
    Strong work from everyone!

  • Unfortunately sueya's entry did not make it, but I am sure that all her efforts will pay off in a different way in the future.
I completely missed the entry Holy Smoke as an entry for this month. I must be getting old :)

Congratulations to all the winners! Great work as always.

  • Thank you and Congratulations to everyone!  What amazing images.

  • Those are all wonderful - and I'd have to agree on the winner. Great story image :)
