Terrain editor-creator

I used to render almost all my scene from Poser in Eon software Vue.
I even subscribed to Vue infinite for that purpose.
It's the costliest software I ever bought for my little hobby !
Nowaday, the render engine in Vue is really showing it's age.
I could Buy Maya and the bridge to Studio, but that would be way overkilling compared to my needs and budget.
Some vendors have already bits of what's needed : like the ultrascatter,
Plants automatic variations is still lacking
Could someone make a plugin to import from and to Terragen or even "simpler" create a realistic terrain editor for DazStudio ?

as usual Casual has done it already
Thank you,
CasualJacques is extremely inventive and I saw his "terrain creator"
but it's really too coarse for use in close-ups
You should have a look at UltraScenery from Howie Farkes (who also made UltraScatter)....

Oh, yeah. Didn't notice that.
The post Timotheus was responding to, stating that mCasual's script was too coarse, was only made yesterday. The poster may actually not know about UltraScenery yet.
yes I was actually responding to them not Timotheus
They obviously don't like to rush
Hi,
To answer shortly, I'm nearing 60 and playing with Poser+Vue since respectively version 3 and 4. I owned my first computer in 1979.
So, no, I'm in no hurry at all.
If it's "too coarse" just apply it to a plane with more subdivisions. He shows an example applied to a 32x32 plane, but there's no reason why you shouldn't apply it to a 100x100 or 1000x1000 plane if your machine will handle it. Similaly, the texture image you apply can be of any size you like.
Well, if you are still looking for a solution to use within Daz Studio, I highly recommend UltraScenery. It gives you a wizard-like UI to build a terrain from height maps (either random or imported) and then lets you add specific features like a road or a stream and en "ecology" like a grassland or aspen forest. The base terrain is only 64x64 meters, which is admittedly fairly small.
You can find out more and see a lot of renders in the product forum here.

There is also infinito: https://www.daz3d.com/infinito-1-0
and Ground Control: http://www.digitalcarversguild.com/plugin.php?ProductId=7
As for Howie Farkes products : I own almost all of them : ultrascatter is almost perfectly similar to Vue plant distribution system except the lack of randomness of objects and the ability to '"paint" the distribution of species.
Ultra scenery is also an absolute must.
For some reason Daz Studio tends to choke rapidly with increased instances which is not the case of Vue.
I vue it's possible to organise the scene by "layers"/ sub folder so that you can hidea lot of things at once.
Thanks for those links :
I'm downloading ground control right now (It's very possible I paid for it when Carrara was still alive outside Daz
In the same page of Github there's a program named DAZ Sorter : if it's an option to organize non-DIM products could be of interest.
For in Infinito I will have a look at it : it's a little pricey, so I expect it to have some powerful abilities, but the pictures provided are a bit too "cartoonsih" for my needs
I'm trying to install ground control : there's a dll to put somewhere I don't know.
in plugins folder with your other dll's
I installed it and it's an option but I have not downloaded any dem files to test it
I couldn't get the Carrara version to work so never tried
under program files DAZ DAZ studio version whatever plugins
It goes on sale sometimes. I don't like it as well as rendering DEMs in Bryce but here is an old render I did in DS using infinito and a Grand Canyon DEM
If you have a Windows PC, I have written a freebie little program to generate a terrain from a height map. The program is available here: http://www.chestnutpens.co.uk/misc/heightmap.html The program UV maps the height map but does not create a texture - sorry!

Richard
What about Terradome 3?
Gus
Is it Iray compatible ?
Yes
Looks a really nice and lean piece of software, but one have to find decent resolution DEMs or Height Maps.
I'm not proficient enough to draw these out of nothing in GIMP
One way to create random height maps in GIMP is to create a new grayscale image of whatever size you want. Then select "Filters > Render > Noise > Plasma..." from the menu. For a different look, you can also try "Solid Noise" from the same menu. Of course, this just gives you a random, uneven surface - it won't give you realistic weathering or water features. For that, I find promising leads at https://www.google.com/search?q=random+height+map+generator
I never imagined this could be as simple as that !
There are so many things to experiment.....
