Problem with content manager

Hi, I did try and check on Mantis if this a reported issue but I'm getting page not found for Mantis.

Can anyone tell me if they are having issues with Content Manager duplicating folders when using the duplicate category/sub categories option? I'm finding that it's not merging the folders but actually creating duplicate folders. For example I now have 3 or more figure folders. Also when I try to create a new folder nothing is showing up and if I try again I get a message saying that it can't create the container.

This has been happening since I inadvertently installed the beta and then uninstalled it.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

thanks

Bugs are now reported to Zendesk, not Mantis. Tech Support.

Thanks Cho...so we don't use Mantis anymore. I hadn't realised I'm not around here much these days.

Eventually the Zendesk will have a full bug reporter, similar to Mantis.

So, is there any list that I can check to see if anyone else has had the same issue?

I am not sure, but I don't think so at the moment.

    Hello Pen

Could you please explain your problem a little more fully, and tell us what version of DS4.6 you are now using?

I have never used the Duplicate option in Categories (I don't know what it is for?), but since it only adds to the database, I don't think it should be creating folders at all. Do you mean physical folders on your HDD, or just extra folders in Categories? I would have thought that creating extra entries (folders) in Categories is what the option is for, or why would one use it?

Version is 4.6.0.18 I use the duplicate categories and sub categories as a way of moving files as normally it duplicates the contents of the file while using the folders already there rather than creating extra folders. If you drag and drop and have a file of the same name it won't move so I find it an easier option. I've been using it this way for while. Recently I accidently installed the latest beta so I uninstalled it. I've noticed since then that the duplicate function isn't working the way it was. I've also had a couple of instances where the desktop shortcut wouldn't work and DS has crashed when I've tried to use it. So I had to reinstall. It started to do it again so I uninstalled and reinstalled again. Left content alone and didn't reinstall but I ended up with duplicates of the folders. I'm also finding as I said earlier that it's not creating subcategory folders. I initially tried refreshing when it didn't create the folder and then tried again to create the folder as it wasn't there but I'm finding it gives an error message that it cannot create the container. This is the message you normally get when there is already a folder of that name. It's late here so I'll try submitting a report via zendesk tomorrow. I would like to fix this though as I'm converting some poser files to DS for a PA and need to set it up.
Edited to add: It's folders under categories that I'm talking about. I always organise content internally in DS.

It sounds like your database may be corrupt.

    1) If you haven't exported user data recently, do that first, so you can restore the categories that are still working.
    2) Close DS and uninstall CMS.
    3) Reinstall CMS by running the installer in C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\cms (if you have DIM installed) or by reinstalling DS. That will give you the latest CMS, which will reduce the chances of the problem recurring.
    4) Search for the file ContentDB.ind -- if you let CMS install to the default locations it will probably be in Program Files (x86) or ProgramData. I would search your entire hard drive with "Hidden and System Files" visible, in case you have more than one set of databases, which could also cause problems. That file is the index for the database.
    5) Stop CMS and delete ContentDB.ind, then start CMS and launch DS. Let DS rebuild the index -- it might take a minute or two.
    6) Scan for new content and categorize it.
    7) Close and restart DS, and see if the categorized items are staying. If they are, you should be good to go.
    8) If newly-categorized items are still disappearing, close DS, stop CMS, and delete all the files in the databases folder. Restart CMS, launch DS, and re-import metadata to get your user data back. It can take a long time, so don't panic if it seems to be taking a long time and the progress bar isn't moving.

thanks Mike, I'll give that a go once I'm more awake...just got up. To reinstall cms via the DIM I would need to uninstall first via the start menu and then uninstall DS via DIM and then reinstall it?

Uninstall CMS from the Start Menu, then reinstall it from C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ3DIM1\cms -- you don't need to uninstall/reinstall DS.

Okay checked out the path you gave...that makes sense. Thanks for the help.

One last question where do I find the database folder...

Probably either "Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZ Content Management Service\Databases" or "ProgramData\DAZ 3D\DAZ Content Management Service\Databases"

Just wanted to let you know everything now seems to be working. I did have to reinstall the Genesis essential starters also but can now created new categories and it doesn't appear to be duplicating folders anymore. Thanks again for all your help!
