Daz Menus not listing content
Background, both newer version of DAZ Studio and Beta Version.,Windows Vista.
Generally speaking over the last few week have purchased a lot of items from
Daz.
Runtime now totals about 40 gbs ( hard drive).
In addition have about 20 separate runtimes from Poser all listed as accessible in
Daz Studio.
I feel this information might have bearing on my problem ( incidentally Content Manager works).
Quite simply:
1. In surface tab selecting the preset, totally blank no matter what the item.
2. On content in content Library when I select a category such as shader, nothing is listed
for about 10 minutes. This problem show itself in almost every other menu.
After hitting refresh and waiting approximately 5 to 10 minutes. items show up.
If I had not seen the items previously and known they were there would think I had nothing.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

First thing to try is to remove the DAZ Studio Beta as the New version replaced it. I Have read that some have issues with both installed. The Beta now shows as (inactive) in my account. Other than that it could be a Graphic card issue.
Many thanks but problem existed when I had only the old version installed.
Was thinking that since the primary Runtime was over 40gbs and the various Poser runtimes ( also on same
hard drive ) max out to over 100gbs, amount might be the answer. If all the
Runtimes have to load might be the problem
Should have mentioned nearly all of this is installed on another computer with
a different graphics card and and same problem exists.
Did not want to cloud the issue.
Biggest concern is when installing new content, does not show up......for awhile
Been having a slight issue with things showing up myself (I use content library, not smart content). On first glance you'd think the folder would be empty, but the thumbnails don't show up until I hover my mouse over where the thumbnails should be.
I'm wondering if it's an issue that occurs when the amount of libraries you have starts getting higher as it has to scan all of them to find everything.
Took the DAZ Beta Version and removed all links to outiside Runtimes.
Worked like a charm.
Content appeared in the library that I forgot I had.
Left the links in the regular DAZ Studio.
Amount of content appears to hamper loading in menus.
The Amount of content is not a issue I have 5 different Content folders and All are 100Gb or MUCH larger.
Guilty admission, have been collecting "stuff" for over 10 years.
Mostly Poser, going back to when it was called Curious Labs
As Runtimes grew, they were not sorted into any category, when they became too large, I discovered I could
create others.
Do not like to give total accumulated, nor do I wish to get in a contest of My Library is bigger than your library.
Fact: Yesterday morning DAZ Studio had links to over 25 separate Runtime folders.
Fact: Yesterday moring when the program started it did so with a "groan".
Fact: Yesterday morning in DAZ Library content, title such as Shaders, Materials, Props, etc would
only give the title and no icons of content. After hitting refresh numerous times and waiting about 5 minutes
Icons started to appear. Then I would go to the next category, same situation.
This situation existed in two verisons of DAZ on same computer accessing the same drive.
(An additional note, all of this is installed on another computer with another operating system, same problem)
Yesteday afternoon, on one version of DAZ on one computer, I deleted all links to all Runtimes except
for the Daz Runtime itself.
Upon restarting it was if it was a different program, fast, all titles displayed.
Even found a product "The Rock" that I could not find before.
Please, please do not tell me that the amount of content does not matter.
That is plain wrong.
Thank you
The number and order of mapped directory folders can have an affect on how long it takes for content(including their icons) to load. This is because DAZ Studio must resolve the relative paths in content against the mapped directories. To do this it has to try each mapped directory to see if the file exist underneath it. Earlier versions of Studio gave a warning when a lot of directories were mapped, but people complained about the warning so it went away.
For best performance you want fewer mapped directories with the mapped directory containing the files you access most mapped first. The number of files under a given mapped directory is less important.
That makes sense. as program starts and continues to run, you are asking it to look for update and display
thousands of item spread out over hundreds of folders.
Can you remember what the warning said, exactly.
Hate to even hint at this, but DAZ itself is in the business of selling content.
It's program is free.
If DAZ were to imply or agree that the amount of content could hamper the program........
I look at it with a somewhat jaundiced eye.
Have been a fan of DAZ for years, purchased a lot of content, been helped in forums under this
and other names, but in certain areas......
In any case solution and work around has been found

I don't remember the exact text (it dates back several years now), but if I remember correctly it warned against mapping more than about 10 directories.
I was only trying to help and I do not have anywhere near that much content mapped and never have. So I never saw this issue before. I have had to wait for the content pane to populate but put that down to buffering. Sorry.
No apology necessary, thank you for trying to help.
It was extremely frustrating and I did not relish the idea of
deleting the links.
All is well now though.
