hi,

I need to draw on the skin of a model of a human body (e.g. a tattoo) and then be able to pose the model. what would you recommend me for this? I won't be necessarily working with tattoos but it is the same principle.

thanks in advance

I take the skin texture map into Photoshop and apply tattoo, scar and whatever and then reapply the texture map to the figure or use LIE (Layer Image Editor)

I believe you can use Blender for this, which has the advantage of being free though of course it's a general-purpose tool.

Blender allows you to paint on to an existing texture map but it does have some limitations.

would it be easy or even viable to first draw in daz, export to blender to paint over the skin/clothes and then export back to daz to pose?

No becasue you would loose the rigging and won't be able to Pose...I am not sure if there is a Blender/Daz Studio plug-in that would keep the rigging and wieght mapping for Genesis intact.

Surely it would be OK, if you are wanting to get the textures to line up - export the posed and clothed models to Blender, paint the alterations to their texture maps, export the maps, and apply in DS instead of the original maps. If Blender supports layering you might even be able to export the modifications as PNGs with trnasparency and use the Layered Image Editor in DS to overlay them on the original maps without having to alter those, which avoids messing the master images up and having to reinstall.
