DAZ Install Manager
Well, it has done it to me again!
I updated my DAZ Studio to 4.6.1.17 recently, no problems and love the new features. So much so I delved into the world of DIM once more so i could download the new Beta version and run it through its paces. To do that I had to install DIM....hah!
Same as last time it killed my CMS again...so I ended it up with no "Categories" no "Products" listings and NO Smart Content.
No matter what I tried (even my tried and true methods to recover it did not work this time) nothing, nada, zip!
Why, oh why does DIM need to install its own CMS when there is already one installed and running from the DAZ Studio install, and working fine?
I have spent literally months Categorising all my Content and use the Smart Content all the time, especially with Genesis and Genesis 2.
Not Happy!!!
Now I am in the process of reinstalling DAZ Studio 4.6.1.17........
What a lame duck! I will never, repeat NEVER use DIM again. I am very disappointed, angry and frustrated. And ask the obvious question WHY does DIM do this each and every time I use it?
For me DIM is now an acronym for "Damm It Man"..........

WHAT? Dim installs only DIM. The CMS is Installed NEW with DAZ Studio Beta, but that should not hurt your CMS DataBase it never has on my system. Well the ONE time I installed a Beta. I just REFUSE to install Betas now.
So I suppose the diaog box when installing DIM stating "Installing CMS...blah...bah" is a figment my imagination?
I don't think so!
Maybe it doesn't on Windows, but I can assure you it defintely does on an iMac.
If I was game enough to install DIM again (which I am not) I would send you the screencap to prove it.
You're not nuts. The DIM installer will install CMS. I relocated both of them not long ago from one drive to another, and DIM reinstalled the CMS as well.
Both Daz Studio's installation and DIM's installation will install the CMS (can't remember if they check for a previous install or not though).
/edit
I use Windows, however, so there may actually be something up with the Mac version that caused you to lose everything.. I don't know. I'd edit your topic title to reflect that your'e on a Mac, so hopefully you can get some Mac-people in here.
Thanks Vaskania....nice to know I'm not nuts. Many would argue that point with you....lol
So, from what you say, which I know to be true, why did the DIM install ask to replace the "already Installed DAZ" instance of DIM.
That is what I believe the problem to be. Maybe it's a glitch.....dunno.
But until someone can convince me otherwise DIM and I have parted company.
Hmm.. I stand corrected. I was NOT trying to be a PITA. Just did not ever notice as DIM is the first tool I installed for DS4.6. I find it useful.
I haven't a clue why it would ask you to install CMS again, other than maybe it didn't find your currently installed instance of it for whatever reason. Your databases will still be where you set them in your initial install.
If you use custom categories, I recommend a regular export of your user data, so if something like this happens again, you'll have your custom categories to select when you re-import your metadata (tick your userdata box at the top, and the override default box at the bottom).
Sorry I can't offer more help, I haven't used a Mac since the Mac+ boxes (back when floppies actually flopped lol). o_O
Thanks guys for all your pertinent advice.
Yes, I export my UserData regularly so I still have all my UserData (files) and MetaData and I'm now in the process of Re-Importing both.
Last time I had to this it took several hours....[sigh]...time to walk the dog I guess....lol :)
Cheers again.
