weightpainting in C8.5 animation mode

has anyone noticed the mesh reverts to default in C8.5 weightpainting an animated figure?
I have had to use C8.1 as I rig stuff then move bones to check influence on mesh by rotating joints weightpainting as needed
this is extremely difficult in C8.5

was wanting to hear from others first, I keep C8.1 installed for many things this is one of them
yes, I have an illustration of it in this thread. works fine in 8.1, not in 8.5
